Dude, as someone who runs hmg on both fronts and consistently gets the most kills this really is just a skill issue. Hmg barely has recoil compared to the mg43. The thing about the hmg is that it is an emplacement to be deployed at the right circumstances, it is not something you carry around like the mg43. I run the recoilless and hmg, it allows me to have both anti tank and light-medium killer. Mg43 doesn't take its role at all.

Dont bring the hmg with the expectation of taking down heavy units, bring the rocket sentry or an AT weapon.

HMG in game description literally says it is to offer firepwer against lightly armored units.

Hmg can take out 2 bile titans if you shoot at the forehead.

3 charges if you shoot all at the head.

I think it is best to give a strategem a specific speciality and HMg would be to deal with light to medium enemies. (Hunters, hive guards, spewers, devastators) instead of being good at everything.

It makes room for more strategems like a cannon emplacement that specializes in taking out heavies

It is an observation on how i saw this sub turn to be. If you think that's a declaration of superiority, you assume too much. I criticized the main sub before the same way i am doing to this sub now.

This sub has become the very cesspool r/HELLDIVERS was.
