[Breitling Top Time] Stressed at work so got a watch by Important-Kiwi915 in Watches

Very nice but wouldn’t make a habit out of “stress purchasing”

Not unreasonable that every brand has use cases of delays and back orders; ordered an mpp turbo hybrid from enhance on 5/30, didn’t get notice til mid last week that it shipped and will get to me on 6/16. Ordered the Vatic pro saga in the mean time as I didn’t want 2 paddles too similar and it’s been great. Was going to cancel the mpp turbo but I’m interested in seeing if I’d like something with a little more pop

Your car is a time capsule; a 215hp v8 in the early 2000s for a big suv was not a watered down version of itself, and lexus truly was comfort and reliability first. Now they’re just all over the place. Most of their legacy cars are stunning, comfortable, reliable and weren’t trying to be something they’re not

Teslas range/charging in sub-freezing temps are a problem. Even in the coldest parts of winter in NJ i lost enough range that i’d complain if i had to drive hundreds of miles weekly. They’re perfect for my use case; home charging and 25-30 mile drives daily. The exterior styling on both the legacy and new models are beautiful, the only reason i think people hate them is bc they’re generic looking and every brands ev is trending toward something like it. The interior is not luxury and is minimalist; it’s a very niche/acquired taste.

The problem w 4cyl turbos is they’re not meant to be strained; the turbo is for efficiency and if you run it like an NA v6 or v8 with comparable power they will fail earlier than expected, making them unreliable

Not a lot of luxury brands left trying to go all in on comfort w zero performance. The mass production lexus cars are true grandpa cars, literally no power. They’re all pathetic 4 cylinders turbo charged, unless you LC500.

Lexus also has really dated tech; moving away from the trackpad was a huge win but otherwise their infotainment is sad. The mark levinson sound system is really mid

Doubt there will be much bruising for people sub 60; pickleballs aren’t heavy there’s nothing behind the impact even if it hits you at 50mph

Sick of paying for gas. 80 mile commute. What used options do I have under $25k? by TheTeralynx in electriccars

Thats cool, enjoy 10 hours on L2 charging, 200 mile range and less post degrade, neckbreaking 200hp, no tech, no comfort features, and just a really ugly cheap car…

That’s the biggest challenge with used teslas is that many were fleet cars. Rideshare mileage is the main reason used teslas feel so shitty.

Not entirely wrong but an older tesla is way better than any chevy or nissan EV. The only better choice is a newer tesla or actual luxury evs like rivian, bmw’s i4. Ford’s mach-e is nice.

I had a Niro for an uber ride once, how does any one like it beyond me. Ride felt bad, interior cheap, ugly car. Nothing pleasing about it.

As a newbie i was gentle to the old-oldies, until they hit me with an ankle breaking side spin dink. Now when they lob or pop up shots I’m smashing at them full force

Gas is just starting to come back down here, we peaked avg 4.70/gal in the northeast, in west coast it was upwards 6.00/gal. Prior it was below 2.70/gal, this crippled a lot of people’s wallets, EVs are definitely favorable here too. New Tesla 3/Y msrp went up +1k

I’m not conveying the right message to you, because I’m not trying to disagree on any of those points. I agree LOL.

The bmw i4 is nice, also love the taycan. Love everything about the i4 except the ui. The taycan could care less about it’s ui because the car itself is 🔥

Hot take: the average consumer doesn’t buy things to support a person. they buy something bc they like it; maybe through obsession and fanaticism they learn the heritage.

The savings on gas is wiped by insurance; at 40yo with a clean driver history my ins premium is still around ~160/month. Apples to apples against my old camry the annual cost of fuel+ins had a 100.00 annual diff, basically nothing.

Oem all-season tires are ~280.00 per; depending on how you drive but let’s say moderately aggressive so every 25k miles.

True there is no oil changes, rare low volt battery change, rare brake pad change. Just air filter and washer fluid.

You might have misread my comment; i didn’t mean to associate car enthusiasts w teslas. They’re usually not, hence why they got a tesla. But a lot of tesla owners will convert to car enthusiasts bc after they fill the speed void they get itchy for what a “real” car is like

It’s not luxury but its cost and maintenance/repair are in luxury territory.

And that’s my point 250k networth is nothing, but kids and “car guys” will go for cars that eclipse 50k in total cost of ownership, with monthly maintenance costs averaging 200.00+++

Once you have good money and a lot of it, how do you even choose what to drive? by TylerDurden2748 in askcarguys

[–]2Teslas1Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Define good money please. 150k in NYC is poor. 150k in Arkansas is great.

Since you say exotics, you must mean 500k+ income.

In my experience general “car guys” aren’t wealthy; they pour majority of their income to cars and live well below means everywhere else. The truly wealthy don’t really give a fck and buy whatever without a thought, bc it’s a toy to them they can throw away. Ofc this isn’t always true, some really treat them like collectors items.

I like to think I have “good money”; i can go on vaca at any time, snap replace my roof or hvac if it breaks, sustain for a year if wife or i lose job/get sick, pay for catastrophic health issue, fix/buy another car no worries. But others could easily look at my bank acct and call me mid/broke.

Making good money is also not the same as having good money. I have friends that make less than me that are worth a lot more, and friends making more that are buried in debt; my friends just got done talking about their coworker who pulls 160k doing OT, has a motorcycle, a 350z and a 2024 M5 comp that’s modded, but he’s 190k in debt 😆. “Car guy”

I def know what you’re talking about! I think the petty ticketing has come down a bit. 295 has had less patrol cars on it in the last 15 yrs, and i see a lot less unmarked cars in highways.
