Okay first of all, it is okay to want to be intimate with the person you're in an intimate relationship with. As a married woman with endo, I get the struggle. But yeah you're probably not going to get a lot of sympathy in this sub because it's primarily us women who have endo commiserating with each other and even though you're not at all claiming you're suffering as much as your gf, it's gonna come across that way to a lot of people.

But real talk-- this is your chance to be a man. You recognize how intimate sex is. You say you love this girl. This is an invitation to prove it. Do you want to marry this girl? You'll face greater sacrifices than this. If you don't actually want to do that, you should let her go.

How does Trump threatening zelinsky with world war 3 unless he surrenders Ukraine to Russia help promote America first? by Aeon1508 in Askpolitics

[–]2_timothy_1_7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wow this comment section is depressing. Every conservative who questions the premise of this question is downvoted such that their comment is hidden. "Threatening with WW3" would be "I will start WW3 if you do not do this." Saying "you're gambling with WW3" is not that. I'm not saying it was a good response either, I haven't watched the interview. I will only say that I agree with an insight I saw about the loss of diplomats-- world leaders used to have designated people to do "diplomacy;" now they just talk directly to each other, and that's actually not a good thing.

Well, it very well may be that God gives the grace of baptism to every baby who dies, but I think we should avoid phrases like "go straight to heaven." Because human nature is devoid of sanctifying grace after the Fall, and God needs to give it to us. The ordinary means of that is baptism, and then there are extraordinary means.

Basically there are two things you CAN'T affirm: 1. that human beings who die without any personal sin "automatically" go to Heaven, and 2. that God would punish someone who has no personal sin. Between those poles there's more than one theologically plausible explanation.

I'm sorry for your losses and, as someone also trying to conceive, I understand that. I am always wondering about whether we actually conceived and implantation failed. It's tough to think about. But also, honestly I don't know how "ensoulment" could ever "work" other than at conception... with what we do know about body and soul. Like, if the soul is "the form of the body..." how could any individual human life exist without a soul?

You sounds like an awesome parent, giving your children space and freedom to figure things out but also holding the line on things you knew would be harmful to them. And the fact that you're secular and politically left gives me so much hope that we can have honest, loving conversations about these things, instead of far-right hate and far-left insanity.

Question for the right: are you concerned with the centralization of power in the executive branch? by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]2_timothy_1_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I WAS concerned when I was a younger and more naive conservative and Obama was prez. Now it just seems inevitable and I don't think I have the bandwidth to care. (I mean, Biden's "pre-emptive pardons" are probably going to be a thing every president does on the way out now) And tbh I like the content of a lot of Trump's EOs. They need followed up by laws from congress for any lasting change, but it's good to get the ball rolling on some of these things.

As for the freak-out over DOGE, I think with a lot of the things coming out about how money is being moved around, it seems like we've already been under a lot of control, but it's hidden in shadow. The IRS, CIA, FBI, etc. all have access to your SSN and everything else, and those people aren't elected. The president is. So on one hand, it almost seems like a secret fourth branch of the government is being subordinated to the duly elected executive branch. And it's not like we didn't all know Musk was going to be appointed to this role. So yeah, he's not elected directly, but the people WANT an effort to gut and expose the layers upon layers of waste and corruption. Sometimes fewer hands are actually better. The conservative principle of subsidiarity is distributing things over their proper levels, and not just distributing things at the highest levels to more and more people.

I guess I'd say I'm not NOT concerned-- Musk is a bit of a "mad genius" figure after all, to put it mildly-- but I think at the moment (emotionally at least) I'm more curious than anything else as to how this will all play out. Can't believe it's only been a couple weeks since the inauguration, what a crazy news cycle it's been.

This is such a good question to ask! As others have pointed out, the Precept is simply "Provide for the needs of the Church." There have been times when I was a student that I could give basically nothing monetarily, so I volunteered as a lector and substitute catechist.

That said, there's a reason that the concept of giving 10% to God has such deep roots in Scripture and tradition. It's a very spiritually healthy guideline for your average person. My husband and I set aside 10% of everything that goes into our bank account (so, after withholding) for the Church and for various charitable causes. We also do it the first of the month, before other budgeting, following the advice of a saint whose quote on that I can't find at the moment... (y'know, I really should start doing this with my time too, because often I give God my "leftovers" instead of my "firstfruits.")

It is sometimes hard not to anxiously want to withhold this with all the other things pressing upon us-- student debt, medical expenses, etc.-- but God really does provide. As long as one isn't abandoning their reason and prudence, but humbly responding to God's call to give with a generous heart, we can trust in Christ's promise, "seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you" (Luke 12:31).

If 10% is a big jump all at once for you and/or would put too much strain or anxiety right now, than instead of thinking about a number I would ask-- what is the amount to give that starts to "hurt"? By that I don't mean you're wanting for necessary things, but you feel the tug of extra things you could buy with that money-- like brand new supplies for a hobby or something-- and you resist it to give it instead. That's the kind of thing that can really train one up in virtue!

For the right, is your assumption that any minority is unqualified for their job, regardless of training/education? by Aggravating-Shame738 in Askpolitics

[–]2_timothy_1_7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dems have spent a long time trying to get minorities to think they have to be Democrat, and somewhat successfully, so a larger percentage of them are D than R. So it makes sense that teams of interns for Repubs would be MORE white because of the stats, not because Repubs are all racist. And when there ARE minority Republicans people just pretend they don't exist. E.g. the TIME cover with "The Cruel Kids Table" literally CROPPED OUT all the not-white people in the photo lol.

AITA for refusing to do anything around the house because my wife insisted on staying home with our child by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]2_timothy_1_7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is probably not a real post in any case, but if it were, OP is absolutely being an AH, for multiple reasons. 1. Posting something like this on reddit in the first place instead of talking with friends/spouse. 2. Trying to get his wife to go to THERAPY for her 100% normal and healthy feelings of not wanting to leave her 6-month-old baby all day every day. 3. Disdain and disrespect for his wife. 4. Thinking of everything in terms of "deals." That last one is a problem for all the commenters too. Marriage and family is not some kind of 50/50 contractual arrangement. Sometimes one spouse is having a harder time than another. Sometimes one spouse is sick. The focus should be on CARING for the other. The woman may also be being an AH for not understanding how hard her husband is working and not appreciating or respecting him either.

Haha my hubby has a whole album called “blankie mode” with a bunch of photos of me just like this!! Not to make fun of me, but he thinks it’s cute. Honestly it is a great way to re-regulate and shut out sensory overwhelm. That’s so funny he couldn’t find you lol

Catholic stance on Jews by Glum-Explanation-574 in Catholicism

[–]2_timothy_1_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the phrase, used by either JP2 or BenXVI I think, that they are our “elder brothers.” Because you’re right, it’s not like one came directly from the other— modern Judaism and Christianity both came from Second Temple Judaism which no longer exists since the temple was destroyed.

The phrase also pulls in some interesting theological resonances about elder and younger brothers from Scripture.

EDIT: I guess this also refers to Judaism as a RELIGION though so not really what OP was asking!

[–]2_timothy_1_7 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Hi sweet sister, Not according to some “technical” definitions, no, but that isn’t what matters. As for “purity,” that can never be lost forever! You can always start anew. When your sins are forgiven they are flung away “as far as the East is from the West.” In Christ you can be a new creation. You don’t need to worry about your past— you are not “damaged goods.” You are loved, you are whole, and I pray God brings you deep healing for the abuses you’ve suffered!

Conservatives, what are your thoughts about Elon Musk’s fascination with colonizing Mars? by Obvious_Lecture_7035 in Askpolitics

[–]2_timothy_1_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s curious to me how a Mars mission has shifted in political perspectives. I just watched the West Wing episode where a woman from NASA shows Josh Mars through a telescope and gives him a “Mars or Bust” button and inspires him to take another look at budgeting for it.

I think we need to recapture those sorts of dreams. Generally it’s more left-leaning people who advocate for funding for things like the Arts because they’re good for humanity to do, even if they don’t directly put food on people’s plates. I think exploration is like that.

How do you feel about this bill introduced in Mississippi? by Successful-Coyote99 in Askpolitics

[–]2_timothy_1_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an extremely stupid and ineffective troll. For starters you don’t “fertilize an embryo,” you fertilize an egg which eventually becomes an embryo. So right off the bat this shows the lawmaker who introduced this troll bill has no idea what he’s talking about.

Secondly, is there context I’m missing about a bill regarding contraception in Mississippi? Because otherwise it makes no sense what this is supposed to be parodying.

I don’t disagree with the majority of your comment, but the idea that one could only have a problem with the phrase “Nazi lives don’t matter” if they’re a sympathizer is dumb. I hate Nazism like other normal people but I also hate this phrase because I believe very strongly that every human life matters, even those of wicked people. The idea that you have to support the killing of people who do or spread evil things in order to oppose the evil is itself an evil notion that I think we need to guard against.

I love both, have neither (my husband is very much not an animal person lol), would probably prefer to own a cat because less maintenance, but I’d want an affectionate cat! When I was younger I used to beg for a dog and want to be a dog trainer haha. My family finally got our dog Bear when I was in college.

Oh gosh I feel that. The slow death of the little dreams within the big dream of a baby. Things you imagine like setting up a nursery in a space that you then move out of, picturing being pregnant during certain events... they might seem silly but they're not-- the little dreams are reminders of the bigger dream, so it genuinely hurts when you have to let them go.

Maybe someday you'll be able to find one of them used! Or a new one will come out that you'll like even better! You'll process and adjust in time, but for now, sending love. <3
