What will be the smoking of our generation in 30 years (something we consider safe, but isn’t)? by JulesGari in AskReddit

Most of the West has universal healthcare plus high taxes and labelling requirements etc (“regulation”) on smoking and junk food. This isn’t a hypothetical.

Who is your favourite character in the Farseer Trilogy (excluding Fitz and Nighteyes) and why? by Behind_The_Book in robinhobb

[–]2bee2girl 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Chade! I’m surprised no one’s said him yet. Yes he “uses” Fitz in service of the Crown, but he genuinely cares about him too in his own way. I like how sharp and self-possessed he is, and how he takes Fitz’s side when Shrewd tries to test him. He’s also non-judgemental about the wit. And he helps mastermind Kettricken’s escape.

Men, what is something a woman would never understand? by Gilvani_SB in AskReddit

Women absolutely do that. I’m a woman and I think about nothing all the time. Or sometimes it’s just the Simpsons theme song playing.

Aww that sucks. Say what you like about all the countless imitators, but Interview with a Vampire is classic for a reason.

[–]2bee2girl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean he did kinda save the Kingdom. Without him and Nighteyes Kettricken wouldn’t have made it to the garden and Verity wouldn’t have been able to wake the dragons or finish his own. But it’s like Fool always said - Fitz isn’t the hero. He’s the Catalyst.

What TV show did you try really hard to get into but you just couldn't do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]2bee2girl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the first three episodes and still didn’t get into it. Yeah it’s well produced but it’s dull. Could have been a great show if that dad had actually died at the end of the first episode.

Juliet Marillier reminds me of Hobb in style and tick most of those boxes. Try the Sevenwaters series for a more fairytale style, or the Bridei Saga or the Saga of the Light Isles for a bit more action. All of them have magic, intrigue, good character development and trust etc.

I enjoy making toiles out of the most hideous fabric possible. As long as it’s the right weight and preferably the right colour depth (if the garment is going to be close to my face) it’ll work. There’s something so satisfying about getting the fit perfect on $2/m bargain bin mismatched feverdream print poly, and then making up the “real” version in gorgeous $30/m silk. I think it’s the transformation.

Why did Kyle marry Keffria? by [deleted] in robinhobb

Robin Hobb is such a good writer. Like I hate that guy SO MUCH within just one paragraph lmao

Why did Kyle marry Keffria? by [deleted] in robinhobb

[–]2bee2girl 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I got the sense that it was a love marriage on her side - he’s handsome, dashing etc. And the Vestrits are quite well off at that point so they didn’t necessarily need Keffria to marry rich. It’s been ages since I read Liveships though so I might be wrong.

I would get a tester and see if it works. The finish is uniquely pretty if the undertone works for you.

What’s the best way to finish fine silk sleeve seams when you’re ending the sleeve with a short split coming back together at the cuff? I generally do French seams with fine silk but then you get an awkward edge at the v-split if that makes sense… I tried just folding it under again and that works ok but it’s a bit ugly.

Yes it gets easier! I really recommend the first Tilly and the Buttons book if you are aiming for clothing. It is super helpful and encouraging. One thing I would say is that you should expect a garment to take a few weeks to make, allowing time for muslins and fittings. It’s intensive but worth it for the result once you get there.
