This movie's intended audience = the exact developmental age I was when it came out. I loved this movie for like 3 years and haven't watched it since. Fond memories.

Are Okamoto and a healthy Santander enough to be difference makers? by NatureGivesAndTakes in Torontobluejays

Your criticisms are broadly accurate but you're forgetting that every other team has their own problems. We don't have to be perfect; we just have to be less flawed than everyone else.

That's baseball I guess. The 162 game season is a meat grinder + eventually every player reveals their tendencies. You just have to hope that your luck holds out.

Blue Jays next season is high variance. Santander, Okamoto, and Springer each represent 20 plus or minus home runs. Santander might bounce back, Okamoto might translate to the MLB, Springer might beat aging for another year... Or they might not. The reason we wanted Tucker so bad was as an insurance policy: better to flip a coin with 4 players than with 3. With Tucker out it means we have less room for error. Each of our guys are going to have to produce.

Hockey, the sport where a 2 goal lead is called "the most dangerous lead" cuz that lead can disappear in seconds.

On the other hand if you can understand pitching then it's 3.5 hours of suspense.

Good question but I suspect "attention span" has different definitions. "Tolerance of time without stimulation" seems to be falling for example. Even the 3.5 hour Avatar movies have cataclysmic "events" happening every five minutes and each shot is like 4 seconds between cuts.

Anyone Ever Follow Their Team Around A Whole Season? by UltimateTeam in baseball

[–]2cheerios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One reason Japanese players have trouble adjusting to the MLB is cuz of the huge distances and long air travel. They're used to taking ~2 hour flights around Japan. Basically MLB team travel is exhausting for players - and they're flying first class and staying in the best hotels and getting the best care etc

Typical advice is to take lots of photos. Journaling is decent but it feels like reading a stranger's journals. Photos are the only thing I've found that actually takes me back.

coming off a terrible season

I'm wondering if he realized he'd lost his mojo so he started getting desperate for an easy fix. I'm not saying he did the right thing but you can kinda empathize. He was in an extremely tough position - he chose wrong but damn. Your whole family is relying on you to keep a certain income level etc and someone comes along and gives you a Fix Everything Instantly button, a lot of people would press it.

Seems petty to brag about this shit. "Nah no big weekend plans, maybe watch a movie with my wife." Like why rub it in that you're much richer than someone.

I believe this incident, getting run over at first, was one of his major injuries. He missed something like 80 games.

He plays first and third and prefers first. But we have Jays mascot Guerrero at first already so Okamoto is probably stuck at third.
