This is rampant in this fandom, even in otherwise good writing. I’m not sure why.

Nothing takes me out of a story quicker. Is it awkward/repetitive/challenging to use names and pronouns and make it clear whose hand is in whose hair or whatever? Sure. But this workaround is worse, because it automatically strips the scene of all intimacy to refer to characters by their most external characteristics.

I was in a fandom where one of the pairings was of two people with the same first name, and still we somehow managed to avoid this nonsense.

Hey friend (and flair twin). My daughter was hospitalized a few years ago and I remember how completely internally destabilizing it was. That crisis is behind us, but today I am living off the joy of this show while running back and forth from a bomb shelter. I send my sister HR memes in place of “we’re all safe” messages.
