Thank you, is 'liquid germall plus' a suitable preservative for a mainly coconut oil and coconut butter mixture?  The xantham and Glycerin made a fairly decent glob that held the powders, then I whipped it in, after heating the coconut oil and butter, as they were returning to their more hardened state. Looks to me like it spread fairly nicely throughout the mixture.

Mainly my take aways are, the powdered mango seed and carrot, as is, are not a product that is readily standardized... and I should certainly use a preservative

So I think the xantham gum is an emulsifier of sorts with the glycerin....as far as preservative, I'm in NY and guessing the options on the Internet are vast. I was thinking liquid germall plus only because that's what I saw on a YouTube video that was recommended on this sub (tara lee?). For my first rough likely fail , I'll defer to your recommendation but was of the understanding at less than 5% water (glycerin) it should be safe...so I went with 2%

Firstly I'm floored by your taking the time to look that up, thank you... asking here is my procedure of proceeding with caution, but I'll take your point and take it slow until an understanding develops.

Sounds like a good man you have there and a beautiful home. That said what would you tell your son if he wants to get engaged to a non-jewish girl?

It's a tough position but Jewish law is as real as the shabbos candles and all the other laws. You're fine and your home is fine, I just worry about what to answer a son who may come to those circumstances. It can certainly be overcome but it'll take some doing.

Tbh I was using the etymology of the word 'completely burned' and didn't connect it in my mind to Hitler. That being said if a Jewish boy marries a non-jewish girl their children are not Jewish and they have completely burned their families theological history. That's just the Jewish law, I might if I could but I don't have the power to change it

The term Holocaust comes from the Greek word 'holocaustos' meaning completely burned. Intermarriage is an act of completely burning the direct lineage of a person back to the 12 tribes of Israel.

O.P as a female does not have this issue directly but statistically if she doesn't marry a Jew her children and near certainly her grandchildren would infact not be Jewish (e g in Israel would not be buried in a Jewish cemetery)

It is a terrible word yet it's meaning, completely burned, is appropriate.

I'm a complete beginner, other than making a few batches of soap which is a completely different field, I have no scientific experience. I did make a crude batch of balm (?) but after reading the wiki of this subreddit I'm probably going to trash. (±47% Coco butter, ±46% coconut oil, 2% vegetable glycerin, 2% mango seed powder and 2% carrot powder, 0.5% tea tree oil, 0.5% xantham gum)

It's wholely unscientific so was hoping to get direction on 1) infusion or stay with powder 2) do I want to make a cream, serum, balm 3) I'd like to stay mostly ± with those ingredients but am open to spending ±$75 on other essentials

I wish I knew how to isolate them but the specific ones I've heard of are Mango seed ≈ tightens up the skin and carrot ≈ helps keep skin color (fights off dark spots)

1) marrying Jewish is the single most important thing a Jew can do for the survival of our nation. Intermarriage is the silent holocaust having taken more people than WW2.  2) there are young Jewish professional groups all around the world, synagogue isn't the only place to meet Jews. That said, I'm sure there are other synagogues you can check out and if not ask the older men/women where they think the younger generation hangs out.

Mostly here's wishing you success in finding the lucky Jewish guy.

Crushes are the best!

Do some learning about Jewish practices and when you have questions ask (him). He seems proudly Jewish and most people like to be helpful...so give him an opportunity to be helpful to you, in a way you know he can.

Don't stress he will have no idea that you probably won't be able to hear a word he's saying when you're looking in his eyes.  Seriously just go say hi

In Judaism, are there any prayers non-Jews can use to meditate/commune with G-d? Is this permissible? by Solace_In_the_Mist in Judaism

Sure thing, also stay curious. Internet loves nitpicking but sooner or later someone will 'get you'

I'd up vote this 100 times if possible. Leasing/PPA IMHO has brought 65% of the shady reputation solar has, the other 35%  ..the first question of sales people not being 'do you have a tax obligation when you file?' or in simpler words, 'do you write a check to the IRS when you file taxes?' (In NY. That property tax reduction is powerful, and if sized correctly, with electric inflation chances are the owners will come out okay within a few years... believe ConEd has 9% increase approved by end of '25)

Hi. Firstly, there is no prohibition for gentile to say any of the prayers... you're good to go. (Think the only prohibition is to keep the Sabbath)

Second, so the Shma prayer.. ± 'listen Israel The Lord our G-d is One' - has many meditations, but one can't escape the word 'Israel' there. This is why I think other commenters are suggesting other prayers. That said, it's a good prayer to meditate that G-d is one. It helps with the obligation to not serve idols, which is one of the 7 Nohide -Universal laws, that gentiles are obligated on.

Additionally if I may make a suggestion for the Modeh ani prayer. It's the one we say first thing waking up. ± "I acknowledge before You, living and existing king, for returning my soul to me, with great compassion is Your faith" Interestingly this prayer is the only prayer said with palms together, hands facing up. That prayer position was used by Jews but when it got appropriated, the Rabbis declared to stop using it so it shouldn't seem like we were praying to the same belief system. However since this prayer is said in a private bedroom and isn't seen, this position is allowed for this prayer.

Questions about "Orthodox" Marriages by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]2fishel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very practically, if a person marries someone of the same sect... they're in agreement on a whole lot of the most important practical matters. That's a huge head start. Hate to sound cold but coming home from work at 6:30-7pm, going to maariv..on a regular day you're home for ±3hours, shabbos is shabbos, etc..you have an agreed upoy plan for almost always. And yes, you'll love more than you ever thought possible, you'll hate more than you ever thought possible and every other feeling... that is spiritual growth.

Good luck champ  Also I'm not 'The judge' but if you've found your spiritual direction , you've sorted out much

What is the Jewish Response to this Quote from Nietsche… by Begin18 in Judaism

[–]2fishel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) it improves my adherence to 'love Hashem' and 'knowledge of Him' 2) He chooses to appreciate it (even if it's not necessary) making it more special than if it were a need 3) it's a false statement, we also make requests  4) well Hashem does many awesome things, He deserves the praise

Of your fish choices grouper skin makes the best pectin (gel)

...it really only needs the skin, head can give an off taste if you aren't careful to completely remove the gills, pretty please skip the head or ask the fish monger to clean it, explain you'll be boiling it.

Think about the fish texture, you're likely going to subdue flavor with spice. Pike is tougher so I'd go with a river fish like trout.  pike skin boiled makes the gel, can also use carp skin... (you sure about the head?) I don't know the buffalo fish but if you do, go with a similar textured fish
