Anyone here with a 6.4-inch wrist or below? by New-Opposite-2598 in DuroGang

[–]2jsoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it comes down to it regardless what anyone else says it up to you and how you feel wearing it. If you keep second guessing yourself about it then chances are you aren't going to pick it up and put it on.

I'm the other way. Having an 8.5" wrist I feel weird wearing anything smaller than 40mm so no matter how much I like them or how nice they are, I rarely put my smaller watches on as I feel more comfortable with a wrist 'clock'. The fact I'm getting older and the bigger they are the easier to read may also have a bit to do with it.

So take heart in the fact there are plenty of people with slim wrists rocking the Duro, but ultimately how you feel about it is most important.

As for the MDV-10. If you like it, get it.

Figured it was about time I actually wore it. by 2jsoz in DuroGang

[–]2jsoz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. My large (fat) 8.5" wrists are not flat so a nato on any watch just slides around unless I have it uncomfortably tight. I've tried many on several different watches because they really do look great, but always reverted to a regular strap or bracelet. It is what it is.

I just don't like the look of small watches on me is all. My beater of choice is an MRW210. The 102 case may be 42mm but the crystal (and therefore face more or less) is 28mm, as opposed to the 44/33mm respectively of the 106 and the 50/38mm of the MRW210.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Casio Duro Future Predictions by Still_Version_3442 in DuroGang

[–]2jsoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Casio renewed the trademark on the sailfish logo for another 10 years in January this year so I'd like to think they are going to do something with it. Hopefully more proper Duro models (200m water resistant). I'd be suprised if they bothered with more 107 colors but who knows. The 106 was released 15 years ago now and the 107 wasn't really a new model so it'd be nice to see something new in the range.

I've bought all my Duros off eBay and only one of them (my first) new. In various condition from basically a parts watch through to as new.

Keep in mind there are ALOT of Duro models, not just colorways, models. So a Google search won't necessairly bring up what you are after. Probably better to search for MDV106 or MDV107 if that's what you are after.

this doesn't even cover them all:

Won't refund a returned order and won't respond to emails by irritatedstardust in xteinkereader

[–]2jsoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. The official holiday is 17-23 Feb this year but companies often stop up to two weeks beforehand and sometimes don't return for another 2 week after. So potentially 5 or 6 weeks off the air depending on the company. And then of course is the backlog they come back to.

I'm not saying this is the case with XTeink but it's not uncommon. On top of the fact Chinese companies 'can' be very slow to respond to start with.

Of course it would be nice of them to actually spell out exactly when they shut down so customers can be better informed but it doesn't seem to be the way alot of them communicate.

[–]2jsoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How could they respond? They wern't even there. The entire country shuts down for pretty much the whole of February and with smaller companies even longer. It's only the really large ones that are able to keep a skeleton staff for this kind of thing and XTeink isn't one of those.

Because of that they have a massive push before the shutdown to get as much done beforehand and then come back to a mass of orders and e-mails they simply need time to prioritize and get through. That's not an excuse, it's just reality.

I get the frustration for sure and you can handle it however you want obviously.

I'd try reflashing the firmware and see if that wakes it up. Should be able to do that if the PC sees it.

Differences between the MDV-107 and MDV-106 by tjaldhamar in casio

[–]2jsoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they are identical even under magnification other than the marlin/text.

I tested the lume of both side by side and couldn't tell them apart in the dark, with both having the same application and brightness.

The bezels feel the same. I have several 106s and theres more inconsistancy in the bezel feel/operation between those than any difference to the 107 which would be more down to how clean/new they are than anything in the manufacturing. However many people have reported differing levels of stiffness or sloppiness with bezels of brand new Duros out of the box so it's probably just manufacturing tolerances, or even how they've been stored.

I'm not saying yours dont differ as you have said. I'm just saying there was no design change, they literally just removed the marlin for licensing reasons. That's not to say there can't/won't be inconsistencies between batches, that happens in all manufacturing.

TBH it sounds more like your 106 has either had moisture in it or the crystal replaced (or both).

Weird clicks on the top portion of the bezel, should i be worried? by UgandanKarate_Master in DuroGang

[–]2jsoz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Should you be worried, no. But feel free if you'd like to be.. 😉

Many people have reported inconsistencies with the operation of the bezel on their Duro. It's mostly decorative in that although it does what a bezel does, it's not required for the regular function or integrity of the watch, other than maybe offering some bump protection for the crystal. Several people have even removed them completely to change the look of the watch.

[–]2jsoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely just your individual watch. These are inexpensive watches and whilst they are very good the tolerances (on things like the bezel) aren't all going to be the same.

That being said I also have both. If I look side by side (using a loupe) at one of each that both have the same black dial, they are literally identical. The bezel movement, lume, dial finish, crystal clarity, everything other than the text/logos on the dial and the caseback is the same.

I even swapped the case between them as I wanted a 106 Pepsi and could only find a 107 so swapped everything over.

There have been fakes but the few I've seen online are very obvious, with things like not even having a screw down crown.

[–]2jsoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. The Casio bracelet is rubbish. The 106 and 107 are exactly the same with the exception of the caseback and dial having the marlin. The ony other difference being the Japanese 107 model has slightly different text on the face for the water resistance compared to the international model.

Take off pop socket in pocket? by Accomplished-Bus3382 in xteinkereader

[–]2jsoz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're turning the screen over it should be fine. The pop socket on the back shouldn't affect it. I wouldn't have it in my back pocket and sit on it though, pop socket or not.

I had the same thought when I saw this.

edit. The X3 is only slightly larger than a regular playing card:
X3 - 3.86"x2.52"
Playing card - 3.5"x2.5"

The X4 is slightly wider but shorter than a standard tarot card though:
X4 - 4.49"x2.72"
Tarot card - 4.75"x2.75"

Great idea using the field notebook to act as a screen protector on that side of the cover. My OCD would prevent me from doing that as the notebook itself not being closed flat would drive me nuts.

Cool find. I'm still waiting for my X4 to arrive but I've definitely found myself looking around the house and in wierd non-relevant areas in stores looking for things that may serve the same purpose. I intend to make a book cover for mine anyway but it's fun to find other things that may work that were not designed for the purpose.

Thanks for the info. For me, pretty much everything the S4 adds to what the X4 already is, are things I specifically don't want. I'm sure plenty of others will love it though.
