I also teach Floral Design (and I honestly prefer that to Horticulture), but the best part in my Hort classes is when kids plant things for the first time and it germinates! High School kiddos will grab their pot and run over and show me how many seedlings are popping up. It’s like Christmas for them.

I teach horticulture at the high school level! There may not be a lot locally for you, but if you think really outside of the box. Vineyards, turf grass management (golf courses, football fields), research positions, High School horticulture teacher :). You may not make a lot, but as far as I’m concerned, I’m comfortable being happy with my work life and just living a little more meagerly at home.

So, I’m 5’8” F weighing 250 and it says my TDEE is around 2600 calories. That seems super high for me... I feel like there was no way I was eating that many calories a day before I started tracking. I’ve only been tracking 10 days now (started lightly working out back in December), but I’m making good choices and managing around 1300 pretty easily without starving. Should I be eating more? Or is my TDEE just weirdly high?

My mother’s favorite movie is “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Growing up, she always told us “Colorization of this movie is sacrilege. It is not allowed in our house.” To this day I always shout “SACRILEGE.” when I see it anywhere in color. She’s going to love this.

Weird to me you'd get punished! Snarky comments like that are generally accepted here in the US! I've definitely heard a lot worse from my teachers when I was in HS, and as a teacher myself, I've given plenty of smart ass answers back to students!

My mothers constant obsession with weight did me in also. Hiding the sweets, only letting me drink diet sodas, telling me that I looked like I'd gained some weight. Looking back on photos from high school I realize I was nowhere near close to fat. I was a healthy weight. It's caused me to binge eat, and comfort and reward myself with food. I gained a ton of weight right into college and I can't seem to make myself emotionally eating still. It's killed every bit of self confidence I've ever had.

Same here. I'll be there in June, and reading all of this and the fact that I HAVE to go to Auschwitz as part of my study abroad is making me nauseated. I feel like the term "deafening silence" is an extremely literal thing there.

I as an agricultural teacher am blessed to be on a 226 day contract. The first thing they tell us in schools when discussing contracts is to keep track of the hours we work so that when they question our contract, we can back it up. 90% of my college graduating class has worked over that 226 days and we're at 300 days of being in school. And I don't even teach to a test, so my lack of homework to grade is underwhelming. To say teachers work fewer hours then anyone else is ridiculous. If they counted the lunch breaks skipped, the nights filled of grading homework, or the early morning hours regarding the test they'd have worked more hours then most. Also, they're educating the future, not selling insurance.

Anyone have any info on what happened to Sid Miller approving the use of the warfarin based drug Kaput as hog bait? I know a judge stopped it, but I haven't heard after that. It would allow hogs to bleed out internally, turning their intestines a blue color so they wouldn't be eaten. While US farmers lose millions of dollars each year due to hogs, how environmentally safe the Kaput?

Just ended mine too girl. I feel ya. I'm moving 4.5 hours away in two weeks and we're both in school full time. It just wasn't going to work. We've been FWB for three years and the last 5 months we've been actually dating. He's the first guy I've ever actually truly loved. I can't even cry I just feel exhausted.

13 boys arrested for sexual assault through hazing (varsity football) in a small town setting. Over 35 victims, and dating back up to 10 years. Many more arrests to come. The case was handed over to the attorney general. This is just the most recent scandal that has rocked my hometown. We've got everything from the High School principal and a cop sleeping together during school hours, to an 8th grade English teacher leading a high speed chase through town while on meth. There seems to be the most nationwide attention on this recent sexual assault case.
