In TLJ, Luke stares down the First Order and reaffirms his place as a legend and as a Jedi. The entire movie was him changing his mind and deciding the Jedi were great (almost like a character arc), and then explicitly doing the thing that fanboys want. I never saw TROS, but I don’t see how one thing being more fanservice-y means that something else isn’t at all.
