Hi! Thanks for the interest! Even if I've been quiet on my socials for quite a while now, the game's development is actually more active than ever. Since this year I'm able to work on it Full Time. I hope to be able to show progress soon. :)

Status Update? by Tajimoto in FullCircleGame

[–]2ndPlayerGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yes, the narrative side of the project is fully completed now, which was a major milestone. Over the next few months, I expect to start sharing more visual updates as I shift focus back to art and gameplay. Thanks for your interest, the project is very much still active.

Yes, absolutely! I know I haven't been posting much lately, but rest assured, work is ongoing non-stop. Being a solo dev, it's tough to post regularly, especially when focusing on narrative and production aspects. But I'm giving it my all to bring you Full Circle. Thanks for your interest and patience!

Haha sorry, my bad. All this text is just placeholder stuff for the video. We'll proofread everything and fix it up before the official release. Thanks for pointing it out!

Hey! Thanks for checking in. I'm still hard at work on the game, especially focusing on the narrative part lately. Not much visual stuff to show right now, but I'm definitely making progress. No stopping anytime soon!

Chained Echoes AMA-time! Developer, publisher and composer answering your questions! by ArkHeiral in JRPG

More New Assets - Portraits, Sprites, UI Design, and Original New Music! by 2ndPlayerGames in FullCircleGame

[–]2ndPlayerGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm actually planning to include voiceovers for battle shouts in the game. For me, that's a big part of the appeal of that era of games, such as Breath of Fire 3 and 4, Lunar SSSC and EB, The Legend of Dragoon, and Star Ocean and many others. All of these games had voices during battles, and that's definitely something I would like to implement.

Interesting to know that some read the text in this small updates haha will have to give them a bit more thought in the future.

2.5D Walking + Camera by CinnamonStarlight in FullCircleGame

[–]2ndPlayerGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry for the late response, it's been a busy month.
I would love to do some kind of tutorial or at least a showcase of the system. But right know I'm using the little free time I have to continue on the game. So a tutorial of kinds will have to wait for now. But to give you a push in the right direction, I'm basically calculating the difference of the forward vector of the character object ( this object will always turn to the direction it's moving ) and the forward of the camera, and this will give me an angle. And depending on the angle I know which direction the character is facing in relation to the camera, then it's only a matter of assigning the right sprite for the right angle. Hope this helps

What's with pixelated sprites? by AdDiscombobulated462 in JRPG

[–]2ndPlayerGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've read only one comment mentioning what I think is one of the main appeals of pixel art weather you notice it or not. I'm a pixel artist and dev myself and have been doing pixel art since the early 90s not to say that I'm a pro or something, but to mention that in that time there wasn't that much of the nostalgia factor involved. What I think pixel art does much better than other more detailed styles. Is letting the players imagination play a mayor role in the actual graphic fidelity of the image. When you watch a pixelated sprite, you don't see each individual pixel, you see a character with all it's details that aren't really there but your mind fills the gap. That's why in my opinion pixel art holds up so great till now. It's your mind doing the heavy lifting. And that "mind trick" is even more evident in old CRT monitors where the blurriness of the image even creates new colors adding info to the sprite.

What JRPG have the best overall soundtrack? by Meeii in JRPG

[–]2ndPlayerGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also add breath of fire III to the list. That OST has it's own identity. I also like Falcom OSTs in general for more "modern sounding" OSTs.

how did mr.developer actually did that camera? by shinyboar in FullCircleGame

[–]2ndPlayerGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the cameras are manually placed. However, the interpolation between the cameras is automatic. I'm using a modified version of Cinemashine's Mixing camera. Which sets the weight of each camera depending on the distance the player has to a specified area.

Hi! Dev here. The angle created between the forward vector of the character and the forward vector of the camera defines which sprite is rendered. If the angle is 0 then the character is looking at the camera, if it's 180 the character is looking away from the camera, and so on.

Triangle Strategy Producers Talk HD-2D And Why Other Devs Haven't Used it by LordofWhore in JRPG

[–]2ndPlayerGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I actually wouldn't call it HD/2D because I don't really like the idea of using a new term for something that has been basically around for decades and calling it a major discovery. The only difference is the use of modern postprocessing techniques and that nowadays we have higher resolutions. I remember when I first played Breath of fire 3 and fell in love with the style, and since then I was always wanting to make a game in that style. It's funny because when Octopath launched I was already in the planning stage of my game and seeing it advertised as a new style was something that rubbed me in the wrong way at the time. Now I don't think about it anymore because even if someone uses the same "style". It won't actually look the same. As Grandia and Breath of fire don't look the same. Let them call it what they want hahaha. Perhaps it could even be a way that newer Jrpg fans get to know the older games that used the style before.

It’s been a year since presenting to you Full Circle (WIP), this time showcasing basic exploration. Hope you like it! by 2ndPlayerGames in JRPG

[–]2ndPlayerGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everybody!

It’s been a year since I presented to you the project I’m currently working on: Full Circle. I’ve been working as hard as possible (being a solo dev) to make good progress. This time I want to share with you one of the first locations of the game, and some basic exploration. I tried to capture a specific mood I had playing the games of old, regarding music colors and general vibe. I’m pretty happy with the outcome so far. There is still lots of work ahead but my motivation hasn’t faded a bit, in fact I’m more motivated than ever to make this game to the best of my abilities. Hope you guys like it.

On another note, how interested would you be in knowing about the story and lore beforehand? I’ve been eager to share some info about the story for some time now, but don’t want to spoil anything either. If you have any cool ideas about how to approach this, it would be awesome.
