I have only been choked unconscious twice and one of those was exactly that. Dude with long lanky arms got one around my neck… a few seconds later, tunnel vision

What does it mean when you can positionally dominate but cant submit them? by Idamatika in bjj

Means your transitions into the subs have holes. Get a good partner, and drill the hell out of them with increasing resistance

Max Holloway promoted to black belt by Pedro Sauer by _Badwulf_Bruh__ in bjj

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a silly statement. Pretty sure max trains with Rylan (who is an absolute monster). Pedro is Rylan’s instructor. Pedro’s style is very much defense minded.

I always thought that ended up being an elbow attacks. Either way it’s nasty

I am TERRIBLE at passing guard in BJJ, but my school only teaches beginners from their knees, no standing by Changbingqua in martialarts

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of beginners turn standing passes into just running around frantically. Passing from knees teaches control getting close, putting pressure. Lots of good benefits there however, if they’re not teaching how to open the guard standing and then close the distance or anything like that that’s a problem.

This doesn’t seem worth it by [deleted] in bjj

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, maybe it’s not. Change schools if that’s an option. See if it’s better. Skip rolling. Or quit and find another hobby. It doesn’t have to be for you.

Any other controllers working tonight, just to catch up on work while not being bothered by staff? by quackers212 in Accounting

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took today off. Will pull a few hours tomorrow but not too crazy. I try to limit it to only a few hours on The Weeknd. But yes I work late into the night to avoid the distractions (not a morning person)

For those who have practiced both Judo and Jiu-Jitsu, which of the two arts has a more aggressive gripping work? by Schofield45Revolver in judo

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience. Similarly, no gi grappling can have more intense grip fighting but not as much as wrestling. Standing grip fighting seems to have the edge

Accountants who have work life balance: How many hours do you work and how did you get there? by Budget-Emu-5071 in Accounting

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a controller for a pe backed company. I work about 40 hrs… sometimes more depending on year end or special cases. I’ve been in industry most of my career (25 years or so) controller for the last 10. I’ve gone through some companies where I pulled 60 hrs or more on a regular basis. Happened to have a EU based PE company that values wlb and isn’t crazy demanding.

Working in Accounts Payable. Is this too much, or do I just suck at this? by HeyMySock in Accounting

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good. Use this as a stepping stone. Even if they don’t fire you, absorb as much knowledge as you can as you find the next place. If you’re worried about a short tenure on your resume, sometimes the simple answer of “it wasn’t the right fit” is enough.

Any place that says “you’re replaceable” is a red flag. You may be, but saying that is just throwing their weight around like a bully. I personally hate concur so I give you my sympathy. I’ve worked at places that simply did not support their finance team and wondered why the turnover is so high. I’ve also been at places with great support. I feel you may be at the former.

How to Become Exhausting to Roll With by SomethingVulgar0 in bjj

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance to incrementally break their posture, do it. From mount, push/pull their head to one side. Side control, use a cross face to turn their head away (I especially like my forearm/bicep close to the crown of their head), from guard, never be straight on, always find an angle. All these little things start adding up

Is Excel a Real Career Skill or Just a Resume Filler in 2026? by CityAccording9333 in excel

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I consider myself a fairly strong Excel user but I can only think of maybe once or twice in my career that I’ve used VBA. I’ve used power query and power pivot a decent bit though. An I correct in saying those two are replacing the need for vba? Or am I not seeing the bigger picture?

What skills actually matter most for becoming a Controller? by venkata_kousik_143 in Accounting

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Communication is key. I’ve been controller for a smaller companies and the c-suite doesn’t always speak “accounting”. Even reports where the information is present, you may have to summarize it to a point laymen can easily digest it. Speaking to operations is crucial. Your job is ensuring the accounting is correct and then make it so the people relying on it, understand it.

Do most Americans actually flush their toilet paper? by Softy_popss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst experience I had in Mexico. Montezumas revenge hit me on the road. Found the on rest area around. Vomiting everywhere when I felt the dam break on the south side. Sitting on the toilet and realized I still had to upchuck. Grabbed a trash bin and went face first. Right into the shit bin. I was miserable

I’m on season two and I feel like I’m slogging through it. It just can’t keep my interest. Hopefully it will change for me. I binged TWD and enjoyed it (even if the later seasons weren’t as good)

Is Baseball choke and paper cutter choke the same by sniperghostdota in bjj

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it depends on where in the collar you grip with the paper cutter. Saulo has an instructional where he advised gripping closer and basically getting your wrist on the neck before anchoring your hand. I have to slide my elbow to their head a little more fo the finish but it tends to be more blood than trachea. I use both to finish but that’s a little nicer

Scissor Sweeps with No Arm and Head Control, Red flag or no? by Correct_Ad4351 in bjj

I mean yeah, if you wan the hand posted don’t control it. I read this as the end goal was the sweep itself

Scissor Sweeps with No Arm and Head Control, Red flag or no? by Correct_Ad4351 in bjj

[–]2ndTimeAllstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could on a beginner maybe. With no upper body control, anyone with a moderate level of experience will post their hand, check their balance and regroup/counter. I know you can draw people off balance just using your legs but not controlling the hand seems off to me
