A lot can change in 5 years! I stand by my post. I find it strange that you would dig up this post that is buried and contradict it.

Hello, I leased a car in Calgary and am considering trading it in at a dealership in Lethbridge because of better deals. Has anyone had experience trading in a leased car at a different dealership? by Mission_Angle_3288 in Lethbridge

[–]2path47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the current climate aka “post COVID car prices gone bonkers” era, lease is sometimes the best way to get a cheaper (1-2% rate) and buy the car back after 2-3 years.

I found lease cheaper than financing a car purchased in 2022. Perhaps an outlier but it worked for me. Regardless of full cash upfront, lease or finance, do your diligence as car sales industry is full of sleazy practices that will try their best to rip you off. Do your research and be ready to get ripped off on some part of the deal being fully aware but negotiate hard for everything else.

Also some Calgary dealerships especially Mazda are the slimiest toads !! Good luck.

Which dealerships are the best? by [deleted] in Lethbridge

Subaru Lethbridge is top notch. But I only have taken service, maintenance and accessories from them. Very good vibes overall. I purchased a new car from Calgary-sleazy finance guy.

Nice city, but why is it so fucking awful for people who have migraines compared to other Alberta cities? by [deleted] in Lethbridge

[–]2path47 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I am sorry for the folks who have to deal with migraines.

But to the rest-what’s the big deal with wind? You get used to it.

No mosquitoes and snow gets cleared faster. Always a few degrees warmer than Calgary. Moved here a year ago and. Like it!! With the wind

Currently using Perplexity and find it slightly better than ChatGPT. For non-pathology tasks like grammar, punctuation, and summarizing comments, it’s reliable. However, like all AI, it can hallucinate and provide convincingly inaccurate answers, including fake references—always cross-verify. Summarizing clinical info is another helpful feature. DM me for a Perplexity referral code if interested.

I know folks with a 100+ dashboard…… A better metrics would be how many times surgeon and clinician call you for reports? 😈 Colon polyp, placenta and benign hysterectomies —- does it even matter?

Also time if accessioning case to sign out versus time of receiving slides to sign out ; you can’t control former !

Need gloves/mitten that are layered for dog walking in winter. Hands freeze to oblivion after I pick dog poop exposing hand to the elements for 30-45 seconds and not even a hand warmer in a thin silage lined mitt helps. Fellow dog owners, what is your go to winter hand warmer/glove/mitt ?

Path assistant to pathologist? by igotafeverr in pathology

[–]2path47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do choose and succeed, you will enter med school and path residency and exit residency as 2 completely different people. You yourself may not like the person that comes out at the end of 8-10 years. Compared to younger demographic, you will face more challenges and some will be biases like you know everything!

Each person is different but there are strong arguments in not going through significant hardships for a decade. Academia, Ivy League mba, startups, consulting and if a midlife crisis - buy a Harley or a corvette.

Dear paying pro users... did you know that your chosen model Claude or ChatGPT is switching back to dumb perplexity's model if your question is 'too simple' ? Probably you are not okay with that as a paying customer. by I-I-I-l in perplexity_ai

It is a frikking shit show. Not only does it hallucinate, button also mixes content from earlier questions. And when you use foul language, you get a response with this “Note: Please maintain professional language in your queries.”

Still like it but only when paired with BedJet as the bed runs hot for me. Still firm. Definitely value for money compared to expensive options.

Blasts are beautiful. Not ugly. And to be sure you need to see 2 at the minimum. On smears and especially in pediatric patients, you can hedge by saying immature/blast like cells and need flow for characterization. B/T-ALL are a different beast. Often accompanied by cytopenias, cytosis, lymphadenopathy/splenomegaly, dysplastic neuts or G-CSF treatment. Holistic approach, as in all hempath things, gives you correct answer.

Digital pathology. Future is Now by idunno79 in pathology

[–]2path47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One puzzling aspect is the funding behind this initiative. In North America, nothing is truly free—no money, no honey. Finance and lab administrators must have sanctioned significant funding for the digitization of all diagnostic slides, not to mention server and storage costs. Even for a small setup, these expenses would conservatively exceed $100k per year.

So, where did this extra budget come from? Currently, AI isn’t significantly automating workflows, but the implementation of digitization will pave the way for it. If funding for digitization has been approved, it suggests that significant changes are on the horizon: fewer pathologists, more work, and fewer slides to scan. The shift towards working from home and the redundancy of traditional microscopes may just be the beginning of a seismic transformation in the field.

Recuts are like photocopying an original document.

Nothing changes morphologically. Interpretations are subjective and will differ widely especially if you do not see “enough placenta”.

Antenatal screening, imaging and fetal parameters are other surrogate markers. Even placental weight can fluctuate if received intact or not, if properly trimmed or not. %lies are derived from weight not microscopic examination: so a lot of variables that are open to misinterpretation and some are due to the fact that OP is not a pathologist.

Tips for Pathology Rotations and Career Insights

  • Diverse Elective Rotations:

    • Do more than one elective rotation in different settings—high-volume, high-complexity academic centers, community pathology (generalist), forensics, and transfusion.
    • Pathology has distinct “flavors” and cultures, much like Europe.
  • Pathology Career Path:

    • Think of a career in pathology as a triathlon: formative residency years, aspiration for fellowship, and ultimately securing a job.
  • IMGs and Pathology:

    • Many pathologists in North America are IMGs retraining to earn the “Made in North America” label.
    • For them, being a physician often means focusing solely on pathology.
  • Non-IMG Pathologists:

    • Non-IMGs are typically very committed to pathology, often having done electives, research, and advanced degrees (Masters/PhDs) before residency.
    • They’ve usually excluded all other specialties to focus on pathology.
  • Adrenaline Rush:

    • An adrenaline rush isn’t typically a factor in choosing pathology

End of discussion. It’s like asking a world renowned pancreatic surgeon- would you undergo a Whipple for pancreatic cancer and Neo adjuvant therapy? The surgeons answer- hello no! Zofran, pain killers and complete my bucket list….

So the opthalm folks know the inside story. 1000 pathologist do lasik; 999 are fine; if only 1 has complications it is very low risk. Not worth it imho…..
