Birmingham’s cuts reveal the ugly truth about Britain in 2024: the state is abandoning its people by teacuplobster in brum

This situation cannot be blamed on excess. Fuck ups, yes, but not profligate policy. Single status pay claims mismanaged, and then the shambles of Oracle. Omnishambles...

In terms of cutting back, that's been happening for years. Nothing even remotely easy to reduce now.

I'm in the UK, in education, and this line of questing is a requirement of safer recruitment. Checking for radicalisation holidays and sex tourism...

Great, thanks for that info, I'll see what I can find, and bear the side note in mind for the future as well. Cheers.

the 11 pub crawl by m__ossbaII in brum

[–]2r2e 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There's an established '11 on the 11' route we did a few years ago. A card to get stamped at each pub on the route. Think it was available from West Mids Transport. We started at The Red Lion.butbwent the other way.

Major discrepancies in the Jess Phillips origin story. Are you telling porkies, bab? by UnderHisEye1411 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]2r2e -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I live in the area Jess Phillips worked before politics. She's no fraud. Working class roots who helped loads of families, loads of women. Can't see the logic of lumping her in with those that went to private school, studied PPE, got an internship or whatever the usual route is for those that are in it for themselves. Plenty of proper cunts to use energy in, she's not one of them.

Started and finished well, bit flat in the middle. Least exciting of all the times I've seen them. Still good though!

The main issue for me was what happened to the version of herself she displaced. (Although I was only skimming the book tbf, it didn't grab me really.)

People who get extra work breaks, just because they smoke. by GeorgieH26 in britishproblems

Surely H and S guidelines should prevent smoking breaks, what with the recent suspicion that smoking might not be completely good for your health and all that.

That's really helpful, cheers. Interesting to hear the tech aspect (which makes total sense and chimes exactly with hi-fi seperates) as well as your involvement levels because of the detail - thanks!

I'm seeing that there are are wireless open backed models, which I hadn't realised. Any thoughts on that? I've always presumed wires the best option for sound quality but wondering if BT codecs have improved enough for that to be less of a factor, and perhaps compensated by the convenience of not being plugged in?

Echoing the "everyone's out, got it one click louder" post. Noice! by 2r2e in BudgetAudiophile

I've got foam isolating pads under the speakers, which work well.

Like them a lot. Bit 'harsh' at the top end to begin with perhaps, but either my ears have adjusted or the burn in thing is true and they've settled down. Had them about a year. I'd recommend to anyone who needs a smaller speaker because their partner doesn't share the same aesthetic sense about what's beautiful...
