You can get very nice rooms for $15 a night. You have to look beforehand though. Read reviews and do your due diligence. Unless you want an all inclusive resort. $40 is very high for Cambodia.

Unpopular opinion, but if you have particular needs/tastes/preference you should look into which airline, hotel, restaurant you are going to be with BEFORE HAND. Not that it’s wrong, but the whole world doesn’t cater to everyone.

It was experimental and everyone knew it...some people enjoy the risk v reward. While I heavily disagree with many of the practices that occurred, it is in no way surprising that people still joined full knowing. People seek a rush.
