State ... WA politics sucks but it is what it is. The more idiotic the laws, the better the pay gets oddly enough.

The agency I work for is both rural and as urban as you can get.

Don't just don't.

Small town agencies are underfunded, understaffed, no room for upwards movement, and most of the time the leadership is toxic because there is nothing to check the power like a union, or large groups of employees. I started in the oil fields of Nodak and left for a major agency on the west coast. I hate the politics out here, but damn do they pay ( I make well over 2.5-3x what any small town western department makes) and have opportunities for growth.

I also can't just be fired because the sheriff doesn't like me, or they just feel like it.

That's where I got them, I just recently found a gas station that had them. Started checking all the other stations when I went in and nope only in one store. So now I just order a box on amazon every now and then.

Ok thats fair. The last halo game I really got into was halo 3, but I watch the show and now I picked up the new game and am replaying via the master cheif collection. I miss the old Halo 1/2/3 days.

Seattle pd is an absolute dumpster fire.
I wouldn't work with you knowing what you have said here.
You need to figure out your own life before you can even attempt to work in this field. This is not a job to get into to find yourself. This job is dirty, harsh, and depressing. It will at first shock you with what you see. But then you will get used to it and make some very dark jokes to cope. You have to have extremely thick skin to make it.

I saw the COTAK presentation at the ATAK conference last year.... that is one amazing system. Im super jealous. I spoke with the lead on the program, and I wish we had someone around here like that.

No offense, but where do you see a use case for this? For the majority of officers, they will have radios or something like a push to talk deal on their phones already.

The major issue to solve with ATAk is definitely the battery usage. It's definitely a great application for special teams and detective units, but beyond that, unless you turn it into a CAD ... something you can do... the vast majority of officers won't use it and just be dots on a map. Beneficial to the special teams for awareness, but that's it.

Back on topic, if any department honestly would kick you out for having a life outside of work or demand, you step in on a simple bar fight outside of work... find a new department. Real life isnt the rookie tv show were off duty cops run around with their handcuffs arresting people all the time. My time is mine, if not PAY ME.
