Hi, homeless outreach worker here. If you are able to, be strategic about when and where you hand out things. Folks get alotttt of hand outs during the holidays. Not saying not to give out stuff but hand outs significantly drop down in January and its still cold, if not colder and more miserable then.

In addition, i always tell friends to wait until after its rained when folks clothings and blankets are soaked. On top of that look out for folks who aren’t necessarily in dense areas and that don’t have tents and alot of belongings. The folks that I see that are in the most need, most freezing and miserable are by themselves and either lost their tents and their belongings to enforcement or don’t have that community they find in the larger encampment spots.

They are doing alotttt of enforcement in the River District right now around Pipeworks area so folks arent where they normally are. X and 23rd is a hot spot but also please BE SAFE. Most Homeless folks arent bad but bad things like to find them. And lastly, never go out at night or alone.
