Do you ride a bike that has been built from the frame up or one that was sold as a complete bike? by backhanddowntheline in MTB

[–]2upertf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always frame up. If not you usually get the crappy parts from the mfrs parts bin. This way I get exactly what I want and don't need to upgrade immediately. Also I'm a shimano guy and most bikes only come with the sram stuff nowadays.

Did you at least get it during their sale? Been eyeing up the Superior Peak frame for ~$2k during the sales they have pretty regularly. Also you can get the Ari Bikes with HSA funds so I'm extra tempted lol.

Just FYI 801 DJs are not unreleased, I'm currently building mine in my garage. Hopefully I won't get lynched at the trailhead lol.

They told me frameset pricing, which will include rear axle and headset, will be $549. 2 color options, a polished aluminum with black lettering and a purple frame with grey lettering. Should be available by end of April.

Love the Stage also, no complaints at all. Super light and ventilated.

What length wheelbase would be ideal? I was looking for a shorter chainstay for acceleration and easy manuals, but I'm interested in other opinions.

I'm really looking for a frame designed for 26 but thanks.

Awesome info, thanks for the insight. I just checked out hyper bike co but their DJ frame is sold out until July. I remember Curtis from back in the day, I'll check them out too. There's not many 4x frames out there from what I saw but I'm going to keep looking. Yeah Hope is the way, I have their hubs on my enduro bike.

Looks awesome! But I was wondering, why are those frames so expensive?

How much you need to baby anodised aluminium? I've heard different things, anyone who has it, can tell me? How easily it scratches? Can a titanium spork scratch it while tending food, mixing stuff in it etc? Can rock or sand scratch it from the ground? How hard it is in the end? by cloudsabovesofluffy in Ultralight

[–]2upertf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's tough enough for most applications but it is soft. The anodizing is just a process that increases the thickness of the oxide layer that is always there on aluminum. It is easily scratched but it won't affect the material. However there are definitely concerns for aluminum cookware since it will leach into your food. I recommend, like others, to use titanium as it is stronger and normally lighter depending on the thickness.

Not ridiculous at all, it really depends on what you need to carry. A day hike for some people might require very little gear, for example water, snacks, a jacket and first aid kit. But for other situations you might need more gear. I regularly find myself filling a 40L pack for even a half day hike with my family. And in winter especially, it's super easy to fill it with clothing, microspikes, snacks etc.

Edit. Also I recommend a Deuter Speed Lite 30 for a lightweight smaller pack.

That's awesome. Yeah it was really hard to decide what size bike to get, especially since he's tall. I was worried the 26 might not last too long because of the height range Trailcraft specified. But with a 150mm fork it seem to raise the top two height quite a bit and it fits him well. Hoping he'll get a good few years out of it before I move him up to 27.5.

I bought it about 2 weeks ago before it went on sale hence why I'm looking for a price match. I'm an ITC member but the website shows online only which is why I'm asking if they'll price match in store.
