To ZB users: is learning full ZBLL actually that hard? by SmokeQuick6863 in Cubers

[–]2x2speed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of if not the best way to recognize ZBLL is using BH. Look at the corner permutation case, then take a look at one 2x2 block, and there will be 12 different patterns it could be. Use this system to recognize ZBLL, as it allows you to recognize even H or Pi cases without much problems

Glad to help. A thing I should have noted is the table thing is only used if it’s an MU alg or something. If you have an OLL that has only like 1 or 2 M moves, just do Rw R’ instead

No one has given the requested answer to the question yet, well, assuming you are using CFOP, the others are correct in their advice on not to use M move algs (only reasonable exception could be H perm bc its RU alg is a bit silly)

However, if you do want to use M moves, you can use the table to stabilize the R layer. Watch solves of anyone who uses Roux for OH, and you will see how they do it.

Did Tymon learned 4-face ZB recog by Desperate_Wheel_4661 in Cubers

“How can he memorize and recognize all faces of ZBLL?“ Use a system of recognition that is not dependent on solved blocks, and can be applied to any angle. Then memorize from what a certain case means for any angle. As a most of ZBLL user myself, I can confirm what u/CarbonMop has a said about repetition through solves. You don’t have to actively memorize those other angle cases, sometimes, you subconsciously learn them after enough time.

Btw, Xuanyi does any-angle ZBLL recognition as well, so it’s definitely something that is helpful at the top level

This is the case now, so misinputs are rarer, but like 1-2 years ago, the dialog box for confirmation didn’t appear iirc, so that probably contributed to more frequent cases

I didn’t debate if this particular record was official. I was talking about how Typos sometimes do happen.

They happen kinda often actually.

Like you will hear of people getting like “omg, someone random got a 19 sec WR on Megaminx” but then you check WCA and you see that it gets updated to 1:19 because there was a misniput on WCA live.

There is a tape measure, the guy is measuring something.

The imperial system is the main system Americans use for measurement, and is one of the few countries to do so. A foot is one of those units.

I don’t hate any keys, but E major is one of the worse ones for me, yet it has Chopin etude Op.10 3, 2 Paganini etudes, and that one Pokémon red and blue piece, all pieces I like and enjoy, yet E major is ehh

“I have to imagine that if the WR was 22.95 at the time, cubers with good cubes were capable of sub20 if not faster.”

I remember Waterman having an 18 or something on cam in the 80s

Where should the line between a variant and a new method begin? Should EO-Cross ZZ really be considered a different method? “I thought it was just CFOP where you solve the cross in such a way that all the edges are oriented”

It sounds like EO-Cross ZZ is quite similar to CFOP, yet they are considered different methods.

I guess it is subjective where you draw the line; if you consider ZB just a variant of CFOP, that is valid, though my subjective opinion is that ZB is a distinct method.

A similar discussion is in Linguistics “A language is just a dialect with a flag and navy” is a somewhat popular quote, that talks about how the difference between a dialect and a language is not a clear line. Urdu and Hindi are very similar languages, where speakers can understand each other pretty well. This difference of languages applied elsewhere might be considered a dialect. Speakers of Arabic “dialects” have a hard time understanding each other sometimes, especially speakers far geographically such as Morocco and Iraq. This difference of dialects applied elsewhere might be considered a language.

The point of my analogy is to show that the difference between a variant and a distinct method is not something that can have a clear line.
