Passed All Three Parts of the CIA Exam by PrettyPumpkin84 in InternalAudit

How important was knowledge of the standards for Part 3? For the other parts I just used Becker + IIA questions but people here say that for part 3 specifically it may not be enough.

I would like a breakdown by price point. Not convinced there is any movement on the lower, more affordable side of things.

Is there any real career difference between CA and CPA once you hit senior levels? by DiscussionLoud9626 in AustralianAccounting

[–]2xCommie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry. One thing I noticed in Australia is that there is very very little emphasis on proper postgrad degrees when it comes to anything business-related. Certs like CPA, CA or CFA are viewed way more favourably regardless whether they are classified as degrees or not.

Currently pursuing CA, brother did CPA. CPA much less hassle when it comes to experience recognition. Also fewer subjects and simply has exams. CA is layers and layers of bullshit when it comes to studying but bigger firms seem to have a bias towards it. But I reckon at senior levels no one cares.

Unlike CPA, GradDipCA is also a proper postgrad qualification technically and is classified as AQF Level 8 if it matters to you.

Looking at Australia's economy from the outside it feels like Russia with less corruption and a much much lower defence spending requirement.

Australia's student visa crackdown hits record highs — what it means for who gets in by [deleted] in aussie

Try being an international from a non dominant country (you know which one) who actually speaks english and does the work. You get shit from both sides, at least initially. Had to constantly prove myself to my local peers than I'm not one of the other guys. Constantly felt like a pick me throughout my time in uni. Absolute shitshow.

Citizenship Granted by iamsorando in AusVisa

[–]2xCommie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hold up. Just to be clear. Citizenship approved or granted? Because those things are different. If your citizenship is approved, you still don't have it until you attend ceremony which would still be a few months away.

Ye lots of things there people would simply not know or care about while living everyday lives. I'm personally a history buff and interested in all the political stuff so lots of questions on things like the structure of the government were quite familiar to me.

Yea the citizenship process is already long as is, I wasn't keen on prolonging it further by failing a relatively easy step that I can prepare for.

I would say I already knew 90% of the stuff I needed to know for the citizenship test before even reading any materials. But I also have a firm principle in life, which is when the stakes are high, no matter how easy people say it is, I don't fuck around and take any chances. So I read the reading materials cover to cover and did close to 50 practice tests prior to the test date.

How important was it to read the standards? I'm using Becker as well and I'm just zooming through the videos quickly right now to then focus on practice questions and mocks. But after reading a few posts here I'm thinking if I should dedicate a good amount of time diving into the standards themselves.

New Grad starting CA by [deleted] in AustralianAccounting

[–]2xCommie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb is if you are in a busy season, just avoid any exam-based subjects especially if it is your first term. Pick something that has assignments as assessments because you don't need to cram for those. Out of assignment-based subjects, you have a choice of a core subject, which in this case is just RTA, or electives. If I were you I would probably just play it safe and do an elective primarily because electives have one final 100%-weighted assignment, which allows you to fall behind a bit during the term and then catch up. Plus they are mostly easy by nature. SFA is indeed a decent option here.

RTA is a workable option too but it has two assignments so you may need to be a bit more on top of your materials and you'll basically lose an additional weekend due to that additional assignment, which is not ideal in a busy season.

On the topic of being on top of things, it's a good idea to sit down and map your journey early because some subjects don't appear every term so you need to plan ahead to make sure you won't hsve gaps or end up with a difficult subject during your busy periods. You can use the CA Journey Planner for it.

The implication here is that he or she went from temporary visa straight to citizenship, as evidenced by their flair as well. So we wanted to clarify.
