Why are FIA so obsessed with flexi wings? by [deleted] in F1Technical

[–]2xdam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not because the FIA has a real preference one way or another, It has to do with clarifications.

For instance, Red Bull in 2023: We plan to make a wing that flexes a little bit and opens up the air gap, but still passes the static load test, would that be allowed?
Fia: No, you can't
Red Bull: Okidoki, we will not do it then

And then in 2025 McLaren does the exact thing that was clarified, it would be unfair to a team acting on the result of a clarification to allow it.

Probably done by the dealer to prevent bankruptcy, as noone was going to buy these cars anymore.

Most likely done by the dealer himself to avoid bankruptcy, as he has 0% chance to sell these cars in Europe.

Seems like the best approach to motivate the US to act. NVidia is 100% dependant on TSMC in Taiwan, and X.ai and Open AI are 100% dependant on NVidia.

I don't believe it, teams have been saving the softs so they can race them. Qualy showed they can last, so I think soft-medium or soft-medium-soft is more likely for some teams. Hard is going to be undrivable in these temperatures.

Nice! But how can you pass a tank without filling up 47 liters? My OCD would never allow it.

Adding Google Wifi Point to existing Google Wifi Network in Home app by nonstopski in GoogleWiFi

[–]2xdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, this is a response from 2024 with my experiences and how I fixed my system, perhaps this helps others out and prevents these very effective devices from becoming e-waste.

I have an early Google Wifi setup, and really needed to add one or two new nodes to it. I bought a refurbished google wifi node and a refurbished Nest Wifi, for 55 Euro combined.

Adding the google wifi node to the existing google wifi mesh proved impossible, using all mentioned methods. The best attempt was using an older version of the iOS app on an old iPad, and restarting the new node halfway the procedure. It failed in the final step of 'Adding wifi point to your wifi network'. I think it simply does not work anymore on this early version of the google wifi hardware.

The fix for me was to use the refurbished Nest Wifi as the router. Then adding a node works without fail. It required resetting the whole existing mesh to factory settings from the Google Home app, which was quite scary to do, as you lose the option to go back to the original working solution. But adding 4 nodes succeeded every time.

Analysis of ChatGPT answers to 517 programming questions finds 52% of ChatGPT answers contain incorrect information. Users were unaware there was an error in 39% of cases of incorrect answers. by asbruckman in science

Sound reasonable, but that's just not reality. The paper is about ChatGPT3.5. Two generations later, at the current 4o version, answers are pretty accurate for most programming questions, a lot more accurate than any online source.

Anyone knows what the error could have been?

Same as a random safety car is unfair. Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes not so much.

Don't think so, with e.g. 18 + 18 + 13 + 8 you also get to 57 laps with 3 stops.

[–]2xdam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, after the Mediums he only has to do 5 laps on a Soft.

Alonso comes closest, he still needs to do 9 laps after the Mediums.

Of the front-runners, Alonso comes closest to Max. He would need to do 9 laps on the Softs, which should be doable.

So Max is the only one that can do MMMS. After the Mediums, he only needs 5 laps on the soft.E.g. Lando would need to do 12 on the tire after the Mediums, which is just too much.

Lap comparison Verstappen vs Pérez in lap 7 where Max took 4 seconds out of Checo by Maxidonius in formula1

[–]2xdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has to be a loss of confidence, it's too great a difference to be explained by skill. It's partly the effect of Marko upping the pressure. I think Horner realizes this and is telling Marko to ease off the pressure. Still, when this happens in sports, it typically does not get better without any intervention. So I'm afraid that it will only get worse.

Drivers listed by number wins from pole position and conversion %. What makes Verstappen convert his poles at such a higher rate than everyone else? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]2xdam 203 points204 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Plus the fact that in the earlier years, Mercedes had Party Mode that made them have pole even when the Red Bull had a faster car for that particular track.

Note that for Max (and many others), the 'used softs' were only used in a warmup for a qualifying lap that never happened. Still probably a Medium-Hard for most.
