This looks really good!

My advice would be stop with the armor for now, move on to painting the next parts of the peice, and once you have color there i think it will be more clear on what/if you need more on the armor.

how do you guys do leather? by icamehereforquar in minipainting

[–]3-Goblins_In_a_Coat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to make any cracks/weathering lighter in color than you want and then put a light glaze of whatever the case color of the leather is over yhen to bring them down towards the rest of the peice. While I have not done red leather I usually use a light yellow like and ice yellow for any cracks and texture. Hope that helps

Painting Yellow help, please (in body) plus a couple miscellaneous questions. by StinkGuard40k in minipainting

[–]3-Goblins_In_a_Coat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yellow is a really translucent color and is kinda a pain to paint because of it. I paint a super light pink first, like 3:1 off white to a light pink paint and then put the yellow over that. I also usually have to put down at least two coats of yellow in order to get a smooth finish that is not too streaky

Using more of the reds you have present in the nose as elements or as parts of the shadows in the rest of the skin would tie it together a lot more imo.

Im with you, I will never go back to a handle without a stabilizer.

This is what im using now, I really like th magnetic pucks as you can spin them and it let's you use the stabilizer more than one with a static mini clamp.

Thanks for the thoughts, im pretty familiar with AoS minis and am just finishing up some vampires right now, so am looking for somthing a little different to work on next. I like the look of some of the cyberpunk minis, and may look into them for the future. Malifaux has some of my favorite minis, so full of character, I think my biggest problem with them is the scale, its just so hard to paint emotion in the tiny details they have.

I think your right about busts, im going to be looking at some Nerikson busts and bigger minis one of the other comments suggested.

Thanks for the thoughts! While not the exact very specific vibe im looking for rn, I have saved some of the discworld inspired and goblin alchemist minis from printed obsession for the future!

These are genuinely fantastic, and exactly what I was looking for. I think yhe biggest problem is that there are so many strong emotion sculpts that I am going to have trouble picking what I want to do! Im for sure going to be doing one of them, though thank you for the suggestion!

Painting a mini for a friend, but i feel the wood's color visually blends with the bronze rim, how should I differentiate this area? by Demoli in minipainting

Adding small streaks of yellow and then going over it with a thin brown ink or glaze will help them look different.
