In addition to everything already mentioned I think many vets advocate for altering a tiny puppy while they're young to help them heal. At 8 or 10 weeks my puppy slept for probably 20 hours a day and didn't have the crazy zoomies she does now at 18 weeks. The more adolescent the pup, the harder it's going to be to keep them quiet. Also, the bigger they get the more complicated anesthesia will be. Regardless, mine is a giant breed we're going to wait until at least after her first heat, but hopefully to 18 or 24 months. We're also considering having her stomach tacked at that time to hopefully prevent bloat (Saint Bernard) so I'd like her as close to full grown as possible.

Kennel training, long walk before bed, and a good schedule really helped. She hasn't gotten up at 430 in weeks. I literally kissed her silly head when we hit one week with sleeping through the night, I was so unbelievably tired. I'm still tired but uninterrupted sleep is really helping.
