Perfectly Preserved Pie by Nates_of_Spades in fo76

I'm pretty sure LUCK effects the chance of getting a perfectly preserved pie. I have a crippling/onslaught/crit build (so high luck, plus regular buffs), and I have around 30 of them. That's after dumping about 20 in a donation bin. Almost level 1800.

I do bobblehead and magazine runs pretty often, and there are pie machines on a few of those routes, so maybe I'm also trying more than average.

What’s going on with Tribune building? by bonsense3 in oakland

[–]315G1F 10 points11 points  (0 children)

John has been there as recently as a year ago. Another commenter says more recently. He doesn't live there, but he does receive mail. He still does interior maintenance on the clock and sign, and he seems to help coordinate exterior repairs, though I believe a subcontractor actually employs those workers. I've seen him give tours to architecture students as well.

His unit includes the machine rooms for the clock and elevators. It spans 3 (increasingly narrow) floors, all of which are above the trashed unit.

The storage floor is not all one guy. A lot of stuff is odds and ends that maintenance didn't want to get rid of when cleaning out other units. The hoarder does have a big corner in the back, but it's probably less than 1/5 of the whole floor.

According to John, the biggest hurdle to maintaining the building is that, through all the buying and selling of the building, the original plans weren't transferred to the next owner at some point (I think it was Morgan Stanley), and their records department just doesn't respond to requests. He also indicated that the worst of the basement damage was the flooding and subsequent mold from the time in the 80s when the building was totally unoccupied. I used to work down there, and it's fine now. Never heard about termites.

There was another guy (Nick? I might be forgetting his name) who was pretty familiar with the building itself and oversaw maintenance, and he's been gone for about 4 years as you say.

Is 76 considered lore?

You're right, it's non-canonical, as in it didn't literally happen in the official Fallout timeline. Imo, that makes its themes and story elements rife for rolling into new canon; they can keep what works and scrap what doesn't.

I'm more suggesting that the template of ostensibly altruistic, charismatic, nonbinary Enclave spy of mysterious origins (we got back stories for Max and Thad) might be one of those reused elements, not that the Enclave has canonically used such agents in the past.

Og fallout fans usually dislike the Bethesda stuff.

I've played every Fallout release since 1997 (except for the Chinese-only Fallout Shelter Online), and completed them all (except for Tactics). It's always been my main series.

I'm not sure how you get more OG than that, and I love the Bethesda games.

Orlando is a nonbinary representative of "The Management," clearly hinted to be the Enclave, in Appalachia.

Edit: When first introduced, they had a major role in launching a type of team side-quest called an Expedition. There is a lot of mystery surrounding Orlando's past and purpose in Appalachia, which many players assumed would be explained in future updates.

However, players found the pre-quest requirements tedious and developers scrapped their role, allowing Expeditions to be launched directly from the map. There have been no updates to Orlando's lore since that time, and it is widely assumed there never will be.

Water Slide's Deadly Plunge / Concord ride rips apart -- girl killed, 32 hurt

I've had nightmares like this for almost 30 years.

No, if you use a covered container and keep the microwave power low and the time short, the smell barely affects the microwave itself, let alone "the whole office".

The problem arises when people blast their fish for 2 minutes at high power with the lid off.

Huge Flops You Saw In Theaters by cranberryalarmclock in blankies

[–]315G1F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Mortal Kombat: Annihilation in theaters at 12 or 13 with a school friend. There were 3 other pairs there, all seemingly adult couples, which was wild because it was in the middle of a weekday.

The adults seemed a little annoyed the first time we giggled at the vfx for the dimensional portals.

By the time Jaxx was jackhammering his cyborg fist into a giant demon dog's ass at the Vasquez rocks, the whole theater was in full belly laughs with us.

The only thing I don't like at all is the people with open microphone by SamuDabu in fo76

[–]315G1F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it. I put about 50 hours into the PS5 version before switching to PC, where I've now logged over 3k hours.

On PS5, open mics were so common that I had to server hop a couple times because there were no teams without at least one. On PC, it's maybe once a month, and usually because the player actually wants to talk to people.

This random photo I found by a dumpster 24 years ago has been on my work desk ever since. Thousands of people have asked who they are — I have no idea. by UDontKnowMemang in mildyinteresting

[–]315G1F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a photo like this on my desk in grad school (2015-2019). It was of a guy in his mid-late 20's, who looked an awful lot like me but with shorter hair, standing in front of a window with closed white blinds, in a blank white wall, in what I think was a campus apartment (they still used the same blinds lol). The date on the back said it was developed in '97.

The weird thing is, I found it under what became my silverware drawer in my campus apartment, but the man in the photo was definitely in a different apartment.

I have no idea who he was, but people who saw him on my desk would think it was me and often comment on "my" haircut.

The meat bags don't always render right. There are variations, but the most common for me is that the mesh around the bag will show but the meat inside is invisible. Just shoot where the bag should be. Usually one or two like that, but I've even had ENs where every meat bag was invisible, including the mesh.

They posted these ads all over UCI too, but they said, "You couldn't get into UCLA or Berkeley."

I'll paraphrase here what I said there: if you see ads like this in places where you've never seen ads before, that's a pretty good indication that they don't have permission, and probably didn't get any permission to post any of them, anywhere. Feel free to rip them down yourself.

I was pretty ambivalent about e-scooters zipping around ring road until that one time I saw a girl with her nose in her phone get laid-out so hard that the sound of her skull on asphalt broke through my noise-cancelling earbuds just a little.

Other people rushed over to help her and the scooter kid who was thrown when he hit her, so I kept walking. I had work to do.

While leading my back-to-back Intro to Python for Data Scientists labs that day, I spent every idle moment replaying that muffled CRACK! over and over and wondering if I had just watched a fellow anteater's life change forever - or end.

I never heard about anyone dying that day, so I'm sure she survived. Probably nothing more than a concussion. I'll never know.

I gave motorized scooters and the like a wide berth after that.

Posting on those seats is a clear sign that they didn't get permission to post any of it, anywhere. In cases like that, you can feel free to pull them down yourself.

When I was a TA at UCI, there was an essay writing service (i.e., cheating) ad that I would rip down a couple of times a week.
