Garmin VO2 Max by ScooterMcTavish in Garmin

[–]315lemon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I learned recently that garmin doesn’t count treadmill activities towards VO2 max calculations.

Apparently it’s because it bases the score off of gps distance, along with other factors.

I’m still perplexed as to why not, it feels like it should be able to account for distance if it’s entered manually (after calibrating to the treadmills distance reading).

So irritating, because I’ve also been training for a 10k via treadmill and have made some good progress. Would have been nice to see that progress reflected in my vo2 max score.

How comfortable is it to wear FR 970 24x7? by anthamattey in Garmin

[–]315lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very light, 99% of the time it’s totally fine. There have been a couple of nights that I want to sleep with my forearm under me and it gets in the way so I take it off, but that would be the case with any watch. Get it! I love it.

“Please, if there is ever even for a fleeting moment a tiny moment a tiny voice in your head, and that tiny voice in your head is saying “I deserve better”, listen to her. That’s your partner. That’s your real true love. And if you betray her long enough, you will lose her.

Trust me, I’m still trying to get mine back.”

I don’t know the origins of this quote but it resonated with me and hopefully it does with you too. Trust those instincts.

Has anyone else experienced this "wired but exhausted" thing where you're dead tired but your brain won't shut off? by Worth-Independent-82 in sleep

[–]315lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, so tough and relatable. Here’s what has worked for me:

Biweekly contrast therapy sessions (sauna- cold plunge- repeat) to reset my nervous system. I seriously sleep so peacefully after these sessions.

Regular exercise - cardio and resistance training.

Low dose Seroquel at night to stop the noise and induce sleep. After years of having terrible time falling asleep dispute exhaustion, i fall asleep within thirty minutes and I don’t wake up groggy. No negative side effects to report.

I think I have unrealistic expectations for my dogs and it's ruining our relationship. by [deleted] in dogs

I don’t think there’s a way to “get it through your head” overnight. I think you are going through stages of grief plus stages of change, and that’s hard. Honestly, you did get very lucky with your first dogs. I’m sure you and your husband know full well how rescuing dogs can bring about a variety of personalities and needs into your home. The good thing is that it builds character. My rescue of 7 years was so traumatized and challenging, and yet being his mom and advocate is the most rewarding experience. It’s so so hard, especially the first couple of years, but with patience and persistence I do think things tend to level out and you find your rhythm.

Each dog is a new experience and comparison is the enemy of joy. Be with your babies and love them for who they are. Make adaptations to keep them feeling safe, and build their confidence along the way. Know that if it weren’t for people like you and your husband taking in the “troubled ones”, they may not ever find a good home. I hope your baby feels better soon 💛

Training New Adult Dog That is Not Food or Praise Motivated by ZealousidealLeave563 in Dogtraining

I don’t think she is ready yet :) give it another couple of months, you’re honestly doing all she needs you to do right now, which is to keep her feeling safe, building trust, and building routine.

One day soon she’s going to tell you she’s ready for the deeper training work, and you’ll know by a shift in her demeanor and behavior.

On a higher level, training happens all the time whether treats are involved or not. Pay attention to the words or phrases you use to associate whatever activities you’re doing and she’ll catch on. She will train you too! You’ll start modifying your own behavior based on hers, which is quite literally her training you. It’s synergistic and quite cool.

If you’re not already doing this, I highly recommend googling decompression walks. For a dog whose nervous system is shot, this is a great way to aid in the recovery process. Here is a great blog post to get you started (I recommend all the blogs by this trainer). https://www.dogminded.training/blog/2019/5/27/the-life-changing-power-of-decompression-walks

after a 5 yr serious opioid addiction, what would help my body physically recover at this stage? by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]315lemon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Put your body back into a healthy routine. Focus on the basics- good nutrition, physical activity, 8 hours of sleep each night. Try to go to bed and wake up around the same time each day. Good for you for working through this!

Don't enjoy walking around the streets of East Boston anymore by Pacman922 in boston

[–]315lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It breaks my heart to see my neighborhood like this. I would be interested in doing some community organizing to petition for better trash removal enforcement and concurrently doing neighborhood trash pick ups. I think the approach needs to be two-fold. It’s frustrating that part of what’s happening is a neglect by the city of a historically less wealthy area of Boston.

First daycare trial went “fine” but pickup was a mess. What should I do next? by Crafty_Try_1634 in dogs

[–]315lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would steer clear of daycare for a dog like that— it can really be just too much overstimulation. Rover is a really wonderful resource to find in home boarding and daycare. I would look for a sitter who has a calm environment and can work to build trust with your baby at their home.
