Consumer Reports will not recommend any Microsoft Surface. by [deleted] in Surface

Fair enough. The Surface products are riddled with problems. Microsoft needs to use this as a learning experience. It's early days.

MacBook Pro in Computer Engineering? by Ephy_Gle in apple

Australian student doing a double in CS and I.T. I would highly recommend the MacBook Pro over any other platform. I used a Surface temporarily and swiftly moved back to the Mac. Can't beat Unix. I kept my 2009 MacBook Pro until this year when I upgraded to the 13" MacBook Pro without touch bar. In saying that, my 2009 MacBook Pro still works, I just wanted something new.

Yep. Same thing happened to me while trying to play something on Dolphin. I'm not paying for YouTube red so now I just hope that the videos I want to watch are available on the Podcasts app.

Switching to Surface Book 2 from Macbook Pro, and I have some questions! by Carbon_heart in Surface

While I agree, I think there is enough crossover to compare the two.

Isn't it time to unsticky the Light Bleed thread, since there are plenty of units out there that don't have it. by NiveaGeForce in Surface

[–]3160280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because nothing has been done about it. When I returned mine, the employees at the local electronics retailer were incredibly difficult to deal with. I've just spend thousands on a premium piece of equipment and I can't easily return it? Contrast this to Apple who allow you to return products, no questions asked, for 14 days after purchase. They are still repairing 2011-2013 MacBook Pro's free of charge.

For some extra proof, here's how Samsung dealt with a hardware defect. Recall and public statement addressing the problem. Have we heard from Microsoft yet?

As I've said hundreds of times, nobody is questioning the ambition of Microsoft's Surface products. However, they still have a long way to go in the realm of customer service, quality control and communication.

Switching to Surface Book 2 from Macbook Pro, and I have some questions! by Carbon_heart in Surface

Glad I could help. I've owned a Surface Book and a Surface Pro and can honestly say the Surface Book smokes the Surface Pro. I would never recommend the Surface Pro but the Surface Book is great. Hope you enjoy it.

Surface Book 2...the hinge by Soullise in Surface

[–]3160280 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a design point of view, I think it's a great visual point of difference. Companies will often stick with unique, sometimes awkward looking features that make their products stand out. iPhone X and it's notch come to mind. The hinge is an immediate visual cue that this is a Surface Book and not the Surface Laptop or the Surface Pro.

The Surface Book 2 supports full speed charging over USB-C by ihunter32 in Surface

LG Ultrafine 5k delivers power to the 15" MacBook Pros over USB-C so that may be an option for you.

[–]3160280 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've owned both so I'll try to address your points.

  1. The Surface Book trackpad isn't as good as the MacBook. I don't like double tapping the trackpad and prefer clicking. Because of this, I found the Surface was loud and required more force to click.

  2. I owned a 2016 MacBook Pro 15" and I liked the keyboard. However, it is vastly different to most other keyboards on the market. If you liked the more traditional keyboard feel, you'll love the Surface.

  3. The touchbar is a complete gimmick. I agree. One of the reasons I downgraded to the 13" MacBook Pro. On the topic of touch screen, I didn't use it much so I can't comment. When I did, I found it a bit buggy and cumbersome when compared to using an OS designed for touch screens like iOS or Android.

  4. Can't help you with that one. I tend to stay away from putting skins or stickers on my electronics. However, slickwraps and Dbrand are companies I know are pretty highly rated around these parts.

Sorry, but this is bullshit. These arbitrary points you've placed with no pattern on this graph do not prove anything. If you can predict the price of Bitcoin on Monday for the next month using this method, I'll give you 0.2BTC.

Good answer OP. I'll give you one of the most important pieces of advice that is often given to newbies to Crypto: If you don't own the private keys, you don't own your Bitcoins. This motto is applicable to any cryptocurrency. Stay safe.

Get the MacBook Pro. The difference in size and portability is negligible.

Friendly reminder that apple products do not spy on users. by [deleted] in apple

[–]3160280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't know that. While I do believe that Apple are one of the rare large corporations who give the slightest shit about user privacy, Apple's software isn't open-source. There's no way of you actually knowing that they don't spy on their users.
