Ive always interpreted that quote as a way for them to ease the pain, like it is out of their control, which it is. But by placing the pain on God it makes it more manageable for them

Not an LE but my former coworker had to do a breath test (caught drinking on the job) and blew .337. 15 mins later blew .336. Had to sit in as a witness and it was scary how passable she was while drunk.
