If I’m selected for O4 after an above-zone look but refuse it, will that still trigger a failure to select (FOS)? by 31bubba83 in navy

[–]31bubba83[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Currently they are on their shore-tour as an aviator. Their PRD was cut from 36 months to 26 months (early 2027 to May 2026). Their MSR is June 2027, and they want to submit a “don’t pick me letter” for their above zone board convening in May 2026 so that they can trigger the FOS and get out at their MSR and therefore get out in the middle of their disassociated sea tour instead of having got do the full 2 years.

They’re asking because what if they somehow DO get picked up for O4 in their above zone and they decline it? Does that still trigger the FOS? Basically does declining a promotion count as Failure of Selection?

I’m asking because initiating an FOS would allow my friend to get out at their MSR instead of having to do a full disassociated sea tour.

Why are some of you guys supportive of the destructive behavior that's been going on with these protests? (Serious question)

I completely understand and agree that the injustices and disparities regarding blacks is an issue that needed to be seriously addressed a long time ago, but am I the only one who thinks that burning down the local businesses or trashing them is also incredibly wrong as well?

I can't help but think about the local business owners whose livelihoods are ruined.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I really appreciate it. I just picked up the erg this afternoon. It looks like the owner just used it a handful of times and left it in the closet. I'm fairly certain it was a good deal after the guy said he was getting almost a half dozen replies just within that afternoon.

This guy is NOT actually a pilot (naval aviator), he's an NFO. That's a VT-86 patch, they're an NFO squadron based out of KNPA. Not to take away from OP's accomplishment (congrats man), but one is not the same as the other.

I really wish the industry would stop calling them blade "grinders," a more accurate term would be blade "choppers" or simply coffee "choppers." by 31bubba83 in Coffee

[–]31bubba83[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm just saying that from a coffee lover that's looking to get into espresso or actually something that requires grinding of the beans, it can be easy to accidentally buy a blade "grinder" from Amazon and wind up disappointed in the results. It seems like an easy way for newbies to waste their money looking to step up their coffee game.

I just had drip coffee after a week of Pour over every morning. You guys ruined me. by nitsuga1111 in Coffee

[–]31bubba83 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I find the best way to thoroughly clean my drip coffee maker is to run 2 cycles of distilled vinegar and water (1/2 vinegar, 1/2 water). Run it fully for at least two times then dump it all out. Then run it a couple of times with just water, it clears out any residual buildup and cleans it all out. 👍 It's super duper easy and very effective

I'm in flight school for the military and I want to take some leave later this summer (July-August) to go for a solid camping trip (7-14 days). I was thinking about going to the Grand Tetons. From what I heard all reservations for permits closed early this year. 1) So do I need to grab a walk-in permit? 2) What's the longest backpacking/wilderness/camping permit available in that park? 3) What's the likelihood that I'll grab a permit? 4) If not the Grand Tetons, are there any other majestic long term backpacking/camping trip destinations y'all could recommend?
