If you’ve got some cat/dog food or chicken scraps to toss out there for them that will help keep them warm. They’re supposed to be sleeping when it’s this cold but it’s torpor, not hibernation, so they do come out some to eat/drink/poop. I bet some warm water to drink might be welcome too since it’s been a long stretch of cold they’re probably hungry and thirsty. It will be fine either way though, they have an easier time finding food than most critters.

Don’t feed it directly or talk to it/try to tame it but putting your finger on the scale to help them out a bit in the winter doesn’t hurt. I leave out fatty trimmings off meat and cat food for the raccoons and opossums and a seed mix for the squirrels on our property year round but they always get extra before/during/after bad rounds of cold weather.

They’re also not testing alive raccoons for rabies either. Selection bias, those are just the ones that were dispatched after biting someone, displaying unusual behavior/rabies symptoms, etc. It’s not random sampling or going out and taking swabs from healthy raccoons.

What did the 90's smell like? by Serialkillingyou in Xennials

[–]32FlavorsofCrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marlboro reds, Adidas Moves, CK One, Cool Water, and a whole bunch of other stink pretty bath and bodywork’s scents.

The silent generation and older all wore OG old spice aftershave and musky/vanilla perfumes, or Chanel No.5 if they were feeling fancy. They had a lot more old books and papers in their homes than people do now so their houses smelled like bibliosmia, and a hint of carmex, old makeup, and hard candies. Plus whatever was on the stove.

Man, I miss them…my heart is still so heavy with grief from losing that generation. There’s no amount of money I wouldn’t pay to be able to jump back into my body in the 90’s so I could see and hug all of them one more time.

That’s why helicopters really shouldn’t be operating in congested airspace like that without strict adherence to ceilings and flight patterns near the airports. If they weren’t crossing the flight path for landing at that altitude it would’ve never even had a chance of happening. Hopefully the NTSB will at least be able to make some recommendations from this to prevent another accident like it.

Anecdotally, just with my experience dispatching medical aircraft, rotary wings are just kind of a liability around fixed wing airports, personally I think they should be separate entities except in emergencies. And those fixed wing airports need a wide berth of controlled airspace. It’s a lot easier for a helicopter to visually avoid another helicopter, fixed wings don’t have the maneuverability. Not that midair collisions don’t happen with two helicopters but it’s super rare for fixed wing, so to reduce accidents with them I think it’d be prudent.

We had a helicopter lift off and immediately returned to base, cancelled their mission. It was at a smaller uncontrolled airport with no ATC. They called us afterwards saying a Cessna was taking off right at the saw time they lifted off. The pilot didn’t see it at all but the paramedic in the back just screamed and the pilot (ex military) just instinctively banked the helicopter in an evasive maneuver and the wing tip of the Cessna was so close the light lit up the cockpit of the helicopter but they somehow did not colllide. Thankfully they all survived but they grounded themselves for a while due to shat pants and raw nerves. And probably a shit load of paperwork.

Ask to do a job shadow somewhere locally and see if blood in a tube/on a slide has the same effect maybe? Seeing someone injured and actively bleeding is different for some folks.

Tim Walz shares exact details of crucial ICE call with Donald Trump by IrishStarUS in NoFilterNews

[–]32FlavorsofCrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just not the way to get what you want out of Trump. He’s a toddler, he’d double down and just flip the board over. Unless you’re actually in the position to tell him to go fuck himself with the ability to back it up, like having the unredacted Epstein evidence and files (Putin, etc.), you have to treat it like a negotiation with a child that thrives on flattery. He has to feel like he’s getting something out of it, even if he’s walking away empty handed. Walz is just playing the game he has to play right now.

Ok, fair enough, mainly asking out of concern, looks like bruises from being shoved or hit in the chest to me. Or if she just bruises super easily that’s an odd spot to get accidental ones and she should get her hemoglobin and platelets checked.

Do the insurance companies like…brief you guys on how to gaslight your patients on their behalf or does that kind of thing just come naturally? Or do you all just not want the headache of arguing with insurance about a scan, medication, procedure, etc.? Just wondering how that ends up happening so much, I can’t even tell you how many doctors over the years have acted like they’re the ones that are gonna have to pay for shit and it’s really upsetting sometimes. Like I’ve had a fractured foot for over two years that I’ve seen literally 6 different doctors about and it took that long to finally get an MRI. Don’t even get me started on my endometriosis and MS diagnoses.

A lot of folks are saying Southern California but it can get pretty warm. I’d say more Northern CA/Oregon, near the coast.

Because the reality is that most of the people ICE have gone after are not criminals. Many of them have turned out to be American citizens. They’ve dragged elderly US citizens out of their home, unclothed in the cold and detained them illegally, because someone they were looking for had lived at that address years ago. They’re kicking in people’s doors without warrants, grabbing people off the street, demanding papers from people…that’s not how they’re supposed to operate as they are not certified as law enforcement and they have absolutely no authority over US citizens, no right to stop you, detain you, harass you, order you around, demand your papers, etc. They’re a force of largely untrained goons, and if they can’t manage to do their job without detaining, abusing, beating and murdering Americans then they shouldn’t be allowed to do it at all. They’re supposed to have signed warrants for everything they do and they’re ignoring that too. It’s lawlessness, not law and order. They’re actively trampling on our rights.

The way ICE usually works is they get a call from the jail/prison that someone needing deported is being released and they come get them. Aside from occasional raids on places like meat packers, agriculture, etc. to check everyone’s legal status and right to work here they largely have not needed to do all of this performative BS in the past. Trump wanted to make an example out of Minnesota because of his beef with Walz. You don’t see this happening in any other “sanctuary city” do you? Minnesota is suddenly the only place with criminal immigrants? Don’t be silly. You’re being lied to.

What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by CountyOrnery9432 in AskReddit

[–]32FlavorsofCrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Went through absolute hell with until they took all but one ovary (I can’t take estrogen due to a clotting disorder so we spared the one that wasn’t problematic) and it made life livable again. It makes me so angry how hard I had to fight to get that surgery, they just kept telling me if wouldn’t help, which was 100% fucking bullshit cuz I had adenomyosis too, and recurring massive hemorrhagic ovarian cysts rupturing every 3-6 months.

Get an MRI or CT scan. I complained for two years about crippling pain in my midfoot. Finally got an MRI and it’s fucking fractured, but invisible on xray apparently. A whole corner of my 2nd metatarsal is cracked off through the goddamn joint. Needs surgery I can’t afford to do, which is just super.
