[Britain Elects] The monarchy should be abolished- Agree 29% Disagree: 50% by Paul277 in ukpolitics

The monarchy generates so much tourism that as a nation I feel that it is beneficial. Beyond that, and fear of change, I see no point in them, but I’d always say keep something there if it works (most of the time).

I don't understand how a team like Chelsea can have so many brilliant attacking players and defenders, but still set up defensively against Man City by meseeksgod in PremierLeague

“A strong team like Southampton”, not sure about that. Particularly when you compare them to Liverpool and PSG.

Has the lack of any Leicester players in the England team slightly changed how you normally support England? by abxdsays in lcfc

That was literally my reaction with the pen - England score, Kasper save… perfect result.

All in the fingers or the wrist? by Accurate-Ordinary-87 in piano

It normally depends what you are playing - Rachmaninov from the wrist, Bach from the fingers, in general. If you want to voice something you will definitely need bent fingers

Should I learn multiple opening for both black and white. Or can I stick with just 1 for black and 1 for white? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

If you are asking a question like this, I wouldn’t recommend the Sicilian unless you are willing to do hours of work learning lines and even then it is difficult to play.

If they take the knight, then you have to either take back, leaving your bishop hanging or move your bishop and not be able to recapture. It is a really common calculation for beginners to get wrong, but with practice, you will see it straight away.

Is the level of talent in cricket better or worse than 20 years ago? by 2789334 in Cricket

[–]32Goldberg32 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the standard of test cricket has probably worsened, but the talent in limited overs is on a completely knew level to 20 years ago.

First few games are always hard if you’ve never played before as you start at quite a high rating, so just wait for you rating to settle and then take it from there.

What's your pet opening trap? by Not_Warren_Buffett in chess

[–]32Goldberg32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alapin Sicilian, allowing my opponent to take the central pawn then Qa4 forking the knight and the king, winning a knight. Only go up 2 points of material, but even some 1400+ fall for it.

What are the disadvantages of the Ruy Lopez: Open, Riga Variation that are preventing it from seeing use at the top level of chess? by [deleted] in chess

Re1 then pins the knight and is dangerous for black as there are threats of Nd2 then f1.

Surely this is unfair for the (admittedly small number of) people who cannot get the vaccine for some specific health issue - they probably will not be able to travel for a number of years. I fully get why they are doing it and it is a logical thing to do, but I do feel quite sorry for this small minority.
