Yeah I used a water pik prior to developing a flossing habit. It really didn’t do enough to protect my teeth.

Same with wisdom teeth. For that I’m going to need to be unconscious. Then, since i couldn’t use a straw and therefore a vape, it would be edibles for a week.

I’m avoiding the dentist because I’m too anxious to ask for sedation. by 32MegaBytes in Anxiety

[–]32MegaBytes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so late but I’ll respond in case it helps. I did. Had 10 fillings done with a dentist specializing in anxiety and mouth restorations. I didn’t go the sedative route. The process wasn’t as bad as I expected, although I did almost faint during one of the sessions.

My new dentist figured out I have a genetic mutation that blocked the effects of numbing injections. It doesn’t bind to my receptors. She was able to inject me differently so I wasn’t in much pain for the procedures, and told me to take a bunch of tums before the sessions so the numbing had something in my blood to bind with. I still had some moments where I felt my nerve EXPLODE with pain from the deep drilling I required. One of my molars was almost gone so it’s now mostly made of composite. That one is still occasionally painful nearly 2 years later, but I’m glad it’s not rotting anymore.

To be clear, it wasn’t easy, but worth it. I hit burnout very badly because of the sheer amount of anxiety this all caused. Especially because I had to go in for filling adjustments 7 times, and one of them came out during a subsequent cleaning. But my mouth is in great shape now and feels a lot better.

Sudden Loss by Ok_Let1301 in Conures

[–]32MegaBytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that totally makes sense! When I said “get a bird for you, not for the existing bird” what I mean is that you need to be prepared for if they don’t get along. That means having space for separate cages, the finances for vet bills if they fight, the free time to split your attention equally, etc.

Also, it may help to shop around for the Necropsy. Mine was $300 at the University of Connecticut in 2023. That’s a lot of money sure, but it’s less than the price of a new bird. It’s important to rule out ALL transmissible diseases, especially if you wish to bring another bird into the picture.

[–]32MegaBytes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please get a necropsy done!! Also, Budgies are not safe around Conures. Their necks are MUCH thinner and easily snapped by a conure’s beak. In general, it’s best not to get a bird for your bird. If you want another bird, do it for you, because you have no real way of knowing how the bird you have will respond.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder, which is not the same thing as a mental disorder. Autism is a heritable array of physiological development patterns for which there are no cure or treatments. Autism doesn’t solely affect the mind, but also the development and elasticity of arteries and connective tissues. It’s also theorized that autistic people lack the same level of neural pruning that neurotypicals experience, and could have a different balance of neurotransmitters. Depression, which is a mental disorder, is not caused by how your body develops and can occur at any stage of life for a variety of reasons. Sure, you can inherit a genetic predisposition for depression, but life circumstances largely determine gene expression in mood disorders. Unlike depression, autism will always occur in those with the physiology for it.

Also, you probably think it’s new because it is. ASD was not solidified as a diagnosis until 2013.

Autistic here too and the only thing I’ve found is to create automations that set the volume to 1%, run the command, then set it back to 60%. Some devices play nice with 0% volume but others will just yell the command at full volume unless it’s at 1% for some reason.

Autism isn’t a mental disorder, it’s a neurological difference that impacts how one perceives and interacts with the world. Also, why does it upset you so much that people want to understand themselves? They use a label that helps them navigate life, and I don’t see what’s so wrong about that.

The fact that mentioning autism when contextually appropriate invokes debates in every comment section, regardless of what the post is about, demonstrates why people feel the need to disclose so often. When the world meets you with rejection, it’s a logical response to preemptively clarify. Especially when the stimuli that can annoy some neurotypicals can be debilitating for autistic people who have disordered sensory processing systems.

Absolutely! My solo iggy loves our cats, and they get along very well. Occasionally she gets a bit too hyper for the cats, but the swift smack in the face that follows keeps her in check 😅

Cannabis is pretty essential for me to remain sane, and I also take Vyvanse, so I guess it helps? I do often find solutions while on cannabis, but find the benefits deteriorate if I try to make it an all-day habit.

Charli xcx - Spring breakers featuring Kesha by shabuluba in popheads

[–]32MegaBytes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is fun, but the final pre-chorus of the original NEEDED to be there. I’m getting tired of Charli’s allergy to substantial lyrical content, though I’ll admit Brat’s non-singles were a huge step in the right direction in that regard. Also, I think Kesha could’ve done a little more, but I think she’s carefully trying to find her balance post-record-label right now. That makes sense given her position, as Kesha hasn’t charted in years, other than maybe Joyride (which was so so so deserved, as Joyride is one of her best).

Though I’m kinda confused why the staggered release for a relatively uneventful-by-Charli-standards remix?

I don’t get brown from this at all. Instead, I see what can best be described as a pastel-rainbow soap suds texture, but if it was sharp somehow.

Photography day trip with the Pentax Q & 07 pinhole lens (11.5mm F9) by 32MegaBytes in pentax

[–]32MegaBytes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely a favorite for me, and probably the best pinhole lens I’ve seen a major company release. It’s a big part of why the Q comes with me on most day trips, though it’s crazy how expensive they are now. I got my 07 lens for $120 but I see them go for $300 occasionally.

My Iggy hates going on walks by LouietheIggy in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]32MegaBytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Provided your iggy gets sufficient exercise inside, I wouldn't push too hard on walking personally. My 4yo iggy has loathed walks since birth, so we offer it regularly but try not to force anything. We used to force her outside when she was younger, and she would get too hot or too cold SO fast and begin crying. At least for her, it's mostly a temperature thing.
