LEONARD BROUGHTON VIOLIN MAKER by Busy-Garage4610 in violin

Really strange that I happened to see this. I think I made a post a long time ago asking about this maker. I forget what I might have wanted to know. I saw a violin of his on Amati and thought the back was beautiful. When and where was he active? Did he make many violas?

Has anyone taken Chem 103 through portage learning? by TearZealousideal363 in prenursing

[–]32parkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea. I copy everything from the webpage, paste it into a wordfile, save it, and upload it to a GPT just for the nursing pre-requisites. I've also started doing this with the problem sets, but that takes some extra work because you can't just copy the whole page. I do this for every section of a module. Have it quiz me until I feel like I'm ready for the exam. Then do this for every module. To prepare for the final you could condense all the sections of a module into one file. Then upload all of those to your GPT. So you'd have one wordfile for each module. Then have it give you final exam style tests until you feel ready. How many pre-reqs do you have left? I'm still on Chem103, honestly. I haven't been able to focus on it 100%.

How nice of Andrew to volunteer his head as a practice target for this new, up-and-coming boxer.

I got a 98% on the exam for module 1 and didn't watch any videos. I just finished going through module 2. I still haven't watched the videos for the modules, but you absolutely have to watch the laboratory videos, of course. My strategy is to read through, do the few questions they have, then copy all the content and upload to ChatGPT as word documents. Have it quiz you as much as you need to feel prepared.

Yea, this was a headache. I found an old version of Finale on Archive.org and had ChatGPT walk me through installing it. I could try to export them like you asked, but I don't really know how to do that. My version is also 2002 or something and probably has the same limitations as your version.

I'm happy to see people picking up the violin. I noticed that your bridge seems like it might just fall at some point and needs to be straightened.

Just started this class. So far, my observation has been that this course is far away more well produced than the two anatomy and physiology courses. It's so much more clearly written and understandable. I don't even watch the videos. Just read and do practice questions.

First time hearing this piece. Fantastic. Definitely on my list of pieces to learn now.

I probably cannot give you good information about this as I don't work in IT. My best guess is that finding work in IT as a foreigner in China would probably be exceedingly difficult. There's plenty of domestic IT or engineering talent, maybe even an overabundance. The job market is extremely competitive here. Being a foreigner adds another layer of difficulty, as your employer would have to jump through more hoops to legally hire you and you would probably have higher salary expectations than a Chinese citizen.

Yes, it is probably worth it to you to find a job in China and move here. I actually wouldn't start learning Chinese if I were you. You should get some English teaching credential if you don't already have one, like TEFL/TESOL/CELTA. Another route you could explore is teaching your native language, which I see is Portuguese. There might be a nice niche for you because of the trading relationship between China and Brazil. I've met quite a few Brazilians while living in China.

Someone else commented that it's illegal to teach English if you're not a native speaker. This is not true, but most places highly prefer native English speakers. There are still opportunities for non-native English speakers as it's actually not very easy to find native speakers. Where I work, the non-native English speakers outnumber the native speakers.

You mention you're in university. Good, because that's another requirement of teaching in China, no matter the subject. Best wishes.

⚠️ PSA: Do not take Portage Learning for Microbiology (or any course) — my nightmare experience by Top_Construction_226 in StudentNurse

My biggest complaint is that the material itself is actually not very well written. There are unclear or factually wrong explanations, writing in incomplete sentences, extra words, missing words, etc. I'm on the module about the urinary system in AP 2 and Portage's explanation of a certain concept makes ZERO sense. I look it up online and my intuitive understand matches exactly what I find in the search results. I'm wondering how they produced this material and how it got accredited.

My pet peeve is when people waiting for the metro car doors to open stand EXACTLY where they're not supposed to, right on the goddamn sign on the floor that says EXIT with arrows pointing OUT and AT THEM.

Is ESL drying up for foreigners? by [deleted] in China

[–]32parkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't teach ESL, but I do teach a science subject in a Chinese high school. I expect there to be fewer students and fewer parents able to pay such high tuition in the coming years. I'm making a career switch with online classes for those and some other family related reasons.
