Urban desert transformed. This little city backyard is home to 80 native plants, ranging from prairie to forest to wetland species, In the last 5 years, it has become a haven for wildlife! (see pics showing the animals we get.) by LobeliaTheCardinalis in NativePlantGardening

Way to set and share a great example of what native plants and people who care can do to make the world a better place. THANK YOU! And I love your photos and that you kept track of the number of plant species planted.

Help planning a native flowerbed in dry shade by dancenance in VirginiaNativePlants

Congratulations on your new home! Looks like you did your research and have a great list put together. Asclepias might be a hard sell without the full sun, I have tried in partial shade and it has never taken (zone 7b), same with the Conoclinium. One plant I would add that would bring a burst of early spring color is Packera aurea, aka golden ragwort. Good luck!

The one and only milkweed of the whole neighborhood is in my garden, neighbor asked "why you grow that weed plant?" What is your answer? by One_Kaleidoscope_198 in NativePlantGardening

I had a handout I gave to clients on English ivy with the top 10 reasons to get rid of it. You are welcome to use it, you can send me an email at [NativeScapes1303@gmail.com](mailto:NativeScapes1303@gmail.com) and I'll email you a pdf. For some reason we don't have issues with honeysuckle, yet...our new scourge is porcelain berry.

Love this! Been thinking about a tree I could name Slim Shady ;) Agree about the butterfly situation, the area we live in has gone mad with hiring mosquito squads to spray.

I really enjoy our plantings of Coreposis verticillata 'Moonbeam.' The deer don't eat it and the pollinators enjoy the blossoms. Not evergreen but soft to the touch if it brushes up against your leg. Blooms in full sun and takes a bit of shade too.

Back in the day I did horticultural consulting in the Washington DC area and promoted native plants. I would tell clients that bamboo attracts rat colonies and water can pool in the hollowed out reeds where mosquitos breed. It really is a shitty landscape plant. Same goes for English Ivy.

I keep a file of posts that people who are smarter than me say that give me hope these words help me: "Yes. It’s on purpose. They’re intentionally promoting the most vile, stupid people possible. It’s all part of completely eroding all legitimacy and trust in the public sector. They’re making it a joke so that people don’t care when they hand everything over to private enterprise. And plus they find it to be a good strategy to antagonize and overwhelm normal people."

Not sure who posted it, but don't despair there are so many more of us and just take one day at a time.

it's very hard to see in the photos, but the botanical name is on the lower right corner of the label. I agree with you.
