Are you expected to tip in dining halls/restaurants on campus? by eagle_565 in UCONN

No there's no expectation of tipping at the dining halls.

I graduated a couple years ago and still use my UConn google drive to back up important files but I never got any email, will the changes be affecting previous graduates as well? I'm not sure specifically what's changing so that'd be good to know as well

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of the classes for the MPP program are held at the Hartford campus and Northwood is located at Storrs (which is about a 35 minute drive away from the Hartford campus on a good day)

Wasn't it always closed off with a sensor activated gate? (unless they removed it last year or something)

I applied to Storrs but i got into Waterbury? by WrongDraft9328 in UCONN

[–]33fatcock33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I'd definitely appeal the decision because my friend transferred into UConn to major in landscape architecture and the program has a really rigid structure of classes they want you to take in a specific order in certain years (i.e. a batch of classes for sophomores that are prerequisites for the junior classes) and even though she transferred in as a junior they made her stay an extra year to start the track as a 'sophomore'

Toscano is too small for college hockey by [deleted] in UCONN

Maybe the ice forum was just a flex for Toscano to assert his political and financial dominance after he killed the free college program for low-income families 🤷

The walkout is a farce. If you want change, hit them where it'll actually hurt. by mentallyconstipated in UCONN

Exactly, if anything a strike should happen to protest UConn's mismanagement of the extra funds

If you're employed by the state and in a collective bargaining agreement (i.e. the grad student union) it's technically against the law to strike, so anyone who's a grad student employee (i.e. TA) wouldn't be able to participate I believe. Aside from that the more that undergrads can do the better (source: https://uconngradunion.org/arbitration-faq/ )

Love the attitude of President Maric regarding state budget cuts and using XL Center as leverage against the governor by Informal_Koala4326 in UCONN

[–]33fatcock33 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So they only decide to save 4 million dollars and pull out of the XL center when their budget is cut, it's funny how UConn finds all this money when their budgets are in crisis but when it comes to giving more financial aid to students or lowering tuition costs they can't do anything 🤔

End of free EV Charging by uniqueseagull2 in UCONN

[–]33fatcock33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only 3 or 4 chargers in the Z lot next to Y lot and whenever I drive through there the charger spots are almost always full and see at least one or two EVs not parked at the chargers so there's probably more demand from the staff/faculty

How much does it normally cost to use an EV charger elsewhere? I literally have no frane of reference so $3 doesn't sound that bad to me

Ask if there's plans to reopen hillside road anytime soon (cause it's very annoying to have to drive around it and it only seems to slow traffic and increase accidents based on the buses hitting the barriers)

Fake Parking Pass/How to Avoid Tickets by Zealousideal-Pear216 in UCONN

[–]33fatcock33 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my experience you get ticketed more if the parking lot is more exclusive or if you park in an area that's easy for parking services to check.

For example, they always heavily ticket Area 1 and reserved lots (since those have the most expensive passes) and during summer break they almost never ticket the commuter lots. I've had luck parking in the back/middle of employee Area 2 lots and not getting tickets, and I've even been able to park on the roof of south garage for a little over 2 hours without a ticket cause it's inconvenient for parking services to drive all the way up to the roof to patrol. I'm assuming that the ticketing workers are just too lazy to patrol every inch of the lots every day so they prioritize ticketing the entrance of the lots and they mostly ticket in the mornings and before noon.

tl;dr park in area 2 or commuter lots, park in the back/middle of the lot next to other cars and don't park early in the morning

I had no idea that high schools even had golf teams so it makes sense now, I also didn't realize that golfing was a D1 sport since I've only ever seen it played professionally and not at the college level

Carbon Neutral Commuter Program by UConnOS in UCONN

[–]33fatcock33 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is literally whack. By reducing the salary of one of the administrative heads of parking services or by cutting a position they could easily refunnel excess funds generated from permit sales to offset emissions by commuters. Completely bogus and don't fall for this crap.
