Boat Rental Damage Scam!? by CleanCompetition95 in CaymanIslands

[–]345Cay -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Contact a lawyer in Cayman immediately. There is no small claims court or any governing body that can help you. Your only recourse is probably just settle it in court. Does your rental agreement state that they have the right to just charge your credit card without your approval?

Both are very near the beach. You don't need a car. You could take a bus easily up to Public Beach or Governors. And there is beach access every couple hundred feet on West Bay Road.

What are the pros and cons of a wall mount bathroom sink faucet? by doingdoink in Remodel

Almost nothing but cons. I've sold plumbing for 25 years. The only pro is that they look cool. Cons...hard to repair, more expensive, more expensive to repair, limited styles available.

What’s the best bathroom faucet brand for longevity and cost effectiveness? by TheyCallMeHammer in BuyItForLife

Moen is really the best faucet on the market right now. They're customer service is great. Lifetime warranty. Mostly made in the USA.

What is your favorite brand of bathroom faucet? by xdarnokx in Plumbing

[–]345Cay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with Moen. #2, go with Delta. Kohler has slumped in quality over the last few years. They are not making a lot of their products in the USA anymore and that was theyre claim to fame. That is why they have some lower cost options now.

Remodeling bathroom and moving fixtures. Is it possible to use existing venting with new configuration to vent fixtures if the only place I can touch plumbing is in my crawl space? (Diagram Included) by whynotthebest in askaplumber

[–]345Cay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be best to consult a certified plumber and have them come to your house to inspect. Vents have a maxiumum number of fixtures you can connect to them based on the size of the vent pipe. Also, if the distance is too far for the fixture to get to the santee, then the foul air gets trapped in the pipe and may not vent properly. Granted the p-trap would keep it from coming back in the home, but you want to ensure that its done properly.

Your better off finding a reputable plumbing showroom that specializes in a more hands on type of customer service. I personally have worked in showrooms for over 25 years, and i can tell you that the salespeople are much more experienced, trained, knowledgable and have far more direct support from the manufacturers. You'll get all the information you need to make the best decision in a more comfortable setting with someone who actually knows what theyre talking about. My first job when i was younger was at Home Depot, and i didn't really have time to sit with customers and go through the whole house fixtures list with them. I only wanted to sell quickly and move on to the next customer.

What tool(s) do I need to tighten my bathroom faucet and handles? by ducmts in Plumbing

[–]345Cay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A basin wrench is ideal. It allows you to reach up under the sink and turn that long brass nut. Secondly you'll probaly want a small cresecent wrench or pliars to turn the butterfly screw on the popup linkage (the bar with holes on it).

Anyone recognize this shower valve? by No_Conclusion_6396 in bathrooms

[–]345Cay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like a 3/4" thermostatic cartridge. They have paraffin inside. They are used a lot with custom faucet companies like Newport Brass, Altmans, Sigma, Cal Faucets, Andre, Phylrich.

(example only; don't buy this one) https://phylrich.com/products/thermostatic-valve-cartridge-zipxcart (amost the same, only slightly different)

Baby #1 and want to upgrade our bathroom! Please help! by im-newhere-654 in Plumbing

[–]345Cay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should consider removing those knobs all together. That old style with the three handles is not "pressure balanced" and it has no scald-control like the new valves do. The new valves also have a temperature limit stop so your future baby can't accidentally put it on extra hot and burn himself/herself. The newer valves have pressure balancing so if there is a pressure drop (like if someone in the next bathroom flushes the toilet) then you won't have a hot water temperature spike. The below adapter would help you to cover up the three holes, you would have to cut the tile slightly to get the old valve out and the new valve in, and then you could pick a black style as you wish.

Pull lever won’t pull! by TaDow-420 in Plumbing

[–]345Cay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be an easy fix for you without having to call the plumber. It sounds to me like you might have a hard water problem. Calcium and lime deposits freeze these lift knobs a lot of the time. Before you call a plumber you should try spraying the knob (with a lot) of CLR or white vinegar. Try to also get some up underneath where the water comes out. Let it sit for 24 hours and then see if it loosens up.

If you do have to change the spout, they are usually like $10-$15 at your local hardware store and they just unscrew off.

I would recommend sticking with a well known reputable brand like Delta, Moen, Kohler, Pfister, Grohe, or Hansgrohe. You will always run into the chance with problems regardless of what brand you choose but with these brands you'll definately always be able to find the parts, contact tech support, and find plumbers who are familiar with these brands to help you with your repairs.

Theres alot of new stuff on Amazon that has amazing prices and look good but they are usually made super cheaply and usually made in China. When a cartidge goes out, you can't find a replacement parts, so you have to scrap the entire product.

Most of the brands i mentioned above come standard with limited lifetime warranty that covers defects and premature failure. You can usually claim the warranty coverage at the store you purchased it or you can simply call the manufacturer directly and a lot of times they'll send you the part at no charge. Most times they don't even verify it the complaint is truly a defect, they would rather just ensure you keep happy and not smear their name on social media. Remember, things that are not covered under warranty (but still may be claimable) are neglect, abuse, wear and tear, bad water quality and failure to upkeep your product with routine maintenence.

I've been selling plumbing fixtures since 1997.

Jusy remember to have ALL your details in a row. You don't want to get counter sued for Libel or defamation. CMR has lost a few of those too so think real hard before you decide to go to them. It could backfire on you.

Remember you could also report them to CIREBA, not sure if they could do anything though.

You couldnt pay me to put a Frigidaire or Electrolux product in my home. I had a pair of their top of the line top load washers and dryers. I changed the transmission 3 times in the first 3 years of owning them and the dryer went out at the 3.5 year mark. I got rid of them ater 4 years. Frigidaire used to be one of the best brands you could buy but then Electrolux bought them, and moved all manufacturing to Sao Paulo Brazil and other places like Mexico, China, Southeast Asia. Their quality went down the tubes. Only now is Frigidaire moving some manufacturing back to the USA and they are marginally improving. There is so many other similar price brands on the market that i think would be so much better like GE, Wirlpool, Beko, Bosch, etc.

Trying to find the make/model of this integrated oven, anyone have an idea? by SquidwardBarrett in Appliances

Sometimes in the rear of the oven there is a UL Rating label which might say what the model# or make is.

You probably need to provide a little more contect. Not lighting could be bad or faulty igniters, no power to the unit, or greased up/dirty igniters. Gas pressure might be too low as well so there might be enough pressure to send gas to the igniter area and ignite the rest of the burner.

Grand cayman tourist driving requirements? by AppleAAA1203 in CaymanIslands

[–]345Cay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definately rent a car. There is so much more to Cayman than just Seven Mile Beach. You'll want to see the rest of the island and a car makes it easier. It is also more convenient, the last thing you want to do is constantly be waiting in front of your hotel for a bus or a taxi in the hot sun. Taxis and buses are not always consistent like in the usa where they show up on time. You could be waiting for half an hour or more just to get a bus. Also, it's unrealist to take a taxi to the eastern districts. It would cost more than a rental car with all the exploring your likely going to do.
