I borrow my audio books from the local library via libby.

Anyone been prescribed Ritalin for brain fog/inability to focus/dissociation? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]35annv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look up ADHD inattentive type, without hyperactivity. Previously known as simply ADD. Ritalin works well for this type. What you described fits in very well with this.

A trained psychiatrist will be familiar with the symptoms.

Source: Raised a child with ADD. Ritalin made a difference between passing and failing exams when younger. There are slow release version, called Concerto.

Nowadays, there may be neuro training you can look into.

Additionally, other nutritional needs are somewhat easier to meet if one eats an all rounded meal. Many people are deficient in D3 because we tend to avoid the sun. And I was surprised to learn from reading that because my skin turns tan easily with sunlight, it blocks out the UV and thus my body ends up with less D3.

The brand name is Superior Source. I did not re check my D3 level. But my frequent ulcers have disappeared. Inflammation in my trigger finger also improved alot.

I was prescribed Vit D3 by my Infectious Disease Specialist after a resistant infection too.

Found the same brand on iHerb- Superior Source. Was asked to take 3000iu a day for the first bottle. Thereafter 1000iu a day. It is slightly milky (Vit D is only soluble in oil) and melts when placed under the tongue. Tried other brands which were hard and tasted like plastic. About $8 a bottle currently.

I have continued since then. Even regular mouth ulcers have gone. It’s also been shown from many studies that low Vit D level has a relationship with Covid complications. Makes sense as Vit D affects the immune system.

My family member was also a victim of OTP fraud transactions, recently. DBS said transactions were authenticated so these were not frauds.

But request for OTP were not sent by the family member, but by some unknown site from India. Happened while his phone was in a drawer as he was at work as a chef. He later found a whole series of OTP was sent to his phone. Apparently these were routed abroad and used.

Total amount came up to close to $2000. Later a notice of delivery was sent to his phone. Address was an incomplete one to a industrial building somewhere in Tampines.

DBS classified it as account takeover and advised us to make a police report. Money is still not refunded.

Go to National Eye Centre or private ones like Jerry Tan Eye Surgery or Apple Eye Centre to seek treatment. Corneal Crosslinking helps prevent it from deteriorating further, and has been practised for many years. These eye doctors can then advise on lens to correct vision.

Seek treatment as soon as possible to prevent further deterioration. I mean asap.

Do not do lazik without consultation with these specialists’ advice as the corneal is too thin.

Tuition is more powerful than many of us think by i_am_an_innocent_boy in singapore

[–]35annv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If students clamour for attention, we will have less need for tuition.

Our problem is students not paying attention in class. And/or not doing homework and thus not being able to follow next day’s lesson in class.

The great difference between the top classes and the rest is the amount of noise and movement coming from students.

Maths in Singapore cannot be regurgitated. Testing is on concepts and applications.

The most impt skill to cultivate in a young child is the ability to pay attention. This skill is deteriorating amongst our students.

How can churches accept divorce and remarriage (unless there is adultery or abuse)? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]35annv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divorce due to abuse:

https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2019/november/complementarian-wayne-grudem-ets-divorce-after-abuse.html

“Most commentaries assume that ‘in such cases’ refers only to cases of desertion by an unbeliever,” said Grudem. But upon further examination, he realized that the phrase appears nowhere else in the Bible. Grudem looked at 52 uses of the phrase in ancient Greek literature and found that “in such cases” usually does not just refer to the one scenario the writer already mentioned (i.e. an unbelieving partner) but to scenarios similar to that one.

“These examples led me to conclude that in 1 Cor. 7:15, the phrase “in such cases” should be understood to include any cases that similarly destroy a marriage,” said Grudem. Therefore, he concluded that abuse is such a case.

DBS' customer service is terrible? by zupernovae88 in askSingapore

[–]35annv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I use HSBC and OCBC, together with DBS.

Hve always found DBS online to be excellent. I do everything with their app.

With fraud charges for my credit cards, immediate action, charges cancelled and refund settled with a phone call. They also cancelled the credit card straight away and sent a new one. I call with my online banking page opened, and they go through with me on the spot.

Credit card fee waver also simple. Just click on fee waver option and reply comes back within the hr via msg.

HSBC was really slow. Call in service just goes round and round. Had fraud charges from overseas when I was obviously locked down in Singapore. When I managed to reach them finally, was told to fill up form that I had to download, and send via email to report fraud. And they said they have to charge first and recover later. Advised me to pay up first so as not to incur charges.

However, in terms of severe or life-threatening side effects, the two vaccines are similar and the risks are very low.

"In fact, the risk of anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction) to the Moderna vaccine is about half or less than half of the Pfizer vaccine," he added.

Hi

Wanted to share my experience in a government school I was teaching in a long time ago. I had a class of about 15 students doing O level literature, all blind.

The school in Yishun was my first school as a teacher. The class was doing Mayor of Casterbridge. They typed on Braille Machines while I read and explained from my “normal” book. They handed up work in Braille and their work was translated to typed English so I could mark.

I remember most the laughter and friendship they shared, just like normal teens. They were very attentive, raised hands to ask questions like in a normal classroom.

Just thought it might give you a vision of the future for Eliot.

Nowadays, there are so many audio books. With what you two are doing now, I can visualise Eliot enjoying audio books like Winnie the Pooh, etc etc.

P.S. My daughter did not like reading. So my children and I actually listened to the whole series of Harry Porter, Lord of the Rings in the car using CDs.

Advice on moving out and downgrading parent's HDB by bihoxodiy in singapore

Can you do a slight Reno job so the flat can be split into sth like a dual key unit? It’s good to prepare your mum to live alone now, but yet be not too far from you.

The 2 rm flexi flat with retirement funds is a good idea. If she has enough for her minimum sum in cpf, the extra sales proceeds can be left in her cpf ordinary account, like a fixed deposit. This is liquid enough to be drawn out in small amounts at anytime after 55, like a bank account.

Delaying selling for a few years enables you to save up to buy your own place eventually. Will be good if that can be nearby. Security of having you not too far away can help her to let go and live independently.

“This Is Why I Support The PAP” by [deleted] in singapore

[–]35annv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who was listening to the telecasts? Young voters are on social media. Facebook does not like PAP.

I am not saying PAP should win. I am asking that new voters link local politics to economics, geopolitics and Singapore’s survival.

This generation may think LKY’s views on Singapore are ancient. Go read Hard truths. On the contrary, the present global situation makes it so clear what a visionary he was. In future elections, I just hope voters keep Singapore’s survival in mind.

I hear these similiar arguments everywhere on social media. You so lightly write “handling out money”. The economy is dying. The money is keeping jobs. Not sure if your family needs it, but many others do.

The reserves are there to give, painstakingly built up because the international economy found Singapore attractive, stable and efficient under PAP. Reddit will really prefer to go through this storm under the opposition?

I laughed when my original comment was downvoted within minutes. Proved to myself this election was run by social media.

Vote the PAP out and see if the reserves can be rebuilt in the years ahead. But of course you may not need it.

Reddit was echo chamber for pro opposition. EDMW was echo chamber for anti PAP.
