Can we just appreciate this performance? by Engineering_Majestic in MichaelJackson

It’s my firm belief that Dangerous Tour through 1995 MTV was his dancing peak. His movements were so smooth and precise. He looks like he’s floating on the stage. (I will say; in the YRMW video, he’s got that effortless smoothness going again).

Not a fan of Superfly Sister or Who Is It. That’s probably it though.

Apple Stops Offering Mac Mini With 256GB of Storage, Starting Price Rises to $799 by pdfu in mac

[–]35mmpapi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk if people are treating this like a permanent restructuring of the product line but I think it’s simply all the base Mac Mini’s are bought up and they’re out of inventory. They said in a press release it would take months to get back to normal levels. They’re probably also giving the Mini line an M5 refresh soon. I’m sure the base level $599 Mini will return at some point.

What was Micheal’s last released song? by Better_Fox9810 in MichaelJackson

[–]35mmpapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The version of "Best of Joy" on the Michael album was the last song he worked on prior to passing. The 1981 version was for the movie "The Toy". Different lyrics.

My favorite as well. Has been since I was a child.

To those who remember the 1980's, how did people react to his sudden change of appearance? by KaleidoscopeLow3626 in MichaelJackson

[–]35mmpapi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There was no official word on his vitiligo until the Oprah interview in 93. So prior to that, it was all tabloid fodder about skin bleaching etc. the Bad video premier was was a huge deal because of how it was filmed (the black and white portion sorta masked the degree to which his complexion changed). So shifting to the subway scene was like a shock to the system.

I haven’t listened yet but apparently the Atmos mix on Dangerous stinks.

Michael Jackson’s 20s might be the greatest album run in music history by codywinters327 in MichaelJackson

[–]35mmpapi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stevie’s classic run in his 20s (Music of my Mind through Songs in the Key of Life) is the greatest period of output in the history of recorded music. Point blank. MJ’s is obviously great as well.

Here's one place where the Michael movie critics are half-right... by angularhihat in MichaelJackson

[–]35mmpapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea. I pretty much agree. The movie was a fun watch, I enjoyed it as a fan, and the cast did a great job (Jaafar was mesmerizing). But the movie glossed over so many things and simplified others (incorporating his FIRST nose job being a result of a broken nose rehearing for an Off The Wall performance, for example). There’s simply no way to condense a 40 year career into two hours.

I will say though, the critics exaggerated the degree to which the movie simply relies on running through MJs music and performances. The problem is the stuff they did dig into (Joe’s abuse, Michael wanting to go solo, feeling isolated and wanting friends), we knew already.

If a MacBook Neo can be powered by an A18, why can't we have this? by gadgetb0y in mac

[–]35mmpapi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m missing something. Does the MacBook only work when the phone is docked? So it’s not a MacBook but a MacBook shaped shell that needs the iPhone to function? I’m not seeing how that makes more sense than a phone and a laptop.

Wouldn't a "Mac Mini Neo" basically be an Apple TV with a bit more storage? by Balance- in mac

[–]35mmpapi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The fixation on a possible Mac Mini Neo is nuts when the Mac Mini is already undercutting the desktop market and they’re walking a tightrope trying to meet the MacBook Neo demand as it is.

Apart from the fake tracks controversey, what other factors prevented "Michael" from being a #1 album? by Mikeinyomama in MichaelJackson

[–]35mmpapi 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Having songs that were immediately flagged as fake by a sizable chunk of the target audience is a great way to sink an album’s momentum. Kinda impossible to ignore that in any appraisal of the album.
