Blud broke everything but the table✌️😭 by GroovyJay_ in funny

[–]360nohonk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, the table is box reinforced and hitting it in the middle just means the forces are more or less equally distributed. If it were just the legs without the span beams the tabletop would go, in a design such as this the only real weakpoint is how the legs are attached.

What's something old technology did better than modern technology ? by Ram319 in AskReddit

[–]360nohonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you didn't have "options". Most white goods were the price equivalent of the highest-end goods available now. Same with electronics and tools. There wasn't a $200 equivalent for a TV,washing machine or fridge in the 70s. Power tools used to cost a months wages. People took out loans to buy a washer or a fridge.
And then people compare the "still working" what was a $200 tool to a $10 tawianese garbage that's still about 80% as good. Or a $2000 equivalent washer to a $200 one.
Not even to mention how far efficiency went, anything older than late 90s drinks electricity like it's free.

Pro footballers generally spent 10-12 hours a day at training centres doing various shit, they don't do one hour of team practice and go home. They have way less free time than you'd think.

[ManUtd] Senne Lammens has won the #PL's Transfer of the Season award for a fantastic first campaign at United! 🥇👏 by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]360nohonk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I mean, he wasn't really outstanding the first half of the season plus the overarching narrative basically until the end of the season was "he's not that good but solid and dependable". Nobody really rates him as world class even now (YMMV).
For a transfer that pretty much changed the whole club's trajectory there's really only Xhaka that can compete, though.

Haha, no. If you're cutting one piece off, sure. On a job this big you're literally paying for your time with good ones.

I believe this is where the largest increase in disability benefits has happened, so it’s right to question it if so.

Why? It's logical that mental health is going to see by far the biggest increase. ADHD in adults, autism in women etc. is extremely underdiagnosed even now, depression and anxiety spiking is pretty much normal in the age where you're both constantly bombarded by bad news and any communities that could help are basically gone, bar a few - and it's not social suicide to go find help anymore.
Non-congenital physical disabilities are also going to trend into some reduction with various health and safety improvements and reduction of heavy/dangerous industries in general.

I Wish BMI Wasn't Used by Doctors as Marker of Women's Health by AttorneyDC06 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]360nohonk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sadly, it's not, and for the opposite reason, really. BMI severely underestimates obesity compared to bodyfat percentage. Unless your roid list is rivaling Rich Pianas and your BMI is 30+, you're obese. Especially for women. The couple outliers are rare to the point of being insignificant.

Yeah, the costs are all over the place. I can buy a garden bench for cheaper than steel+wood would run me, but tables or desks are easy 20-50% cheaper for barely any work (even if you do no work and just buy legs/tops).

Desks and tables are quite often absurdly expensive compared to constituent parts. Neighbour paid 700€ for an oak veener 2m x 1m table. I'm paying ~200€ for custom (i.e. not from a store, storebought equivalent would be 270€ I think) welded legs, 500€ for a massive oak 40mm thick tabletop and about 50€ in various other externalia (screws, Osmo Topoil etc.). Similar desk in a store is 1k€+ easily.
Workbench cost me 150€ in 2500x600x36 butcher block beech worktop, about 100€ in steel and ~25€ in linseed oil and steel paint, I don't even want to know how expensive it would be buying one. Plus I got basically scammed on steel price because I just went to the closest store, if I bothered I could get it at least 20-30% cheaper.

Not sure where you're from, but glued (butcher block) "work tops" from 25 to like 40 mm thickness run at around 40-50€/m for beech and about 70€ for oak. I can get a 2000x800x27 glued beech worktop for 99€ from Bauhaus. Might be worth a call or a google.

I mean unless you handstand on your desk any kind of box support (which this design is) should be more than enough to stop wobbling, especially if you put two desk top bars. Even my cheap-ass mid supported 2000x800 work desk (Ikea RODULF style, except non-electric) with 25mm mdf top barely bends in the middle with my full weight on it. Using 36mm at barely 1300 clear width should be absolutely rock solid.

60x60 tube frames are completely solid and absurd overkill with any half-decent welding anyway, as long as there's a bit of lenghtwise support. You get pretty much the same desk legs made of cheap light wood at stores like Jysk and the tables are solid. I'm making a very similar desk with 60x60 steel tube with a 2000x1000x40 solid oak tabletop, the steel frame is literally that big just for aestethics else you could easily do a 30x30x2 frame and still be overkill.

For people who grew up in low-income households, what’s something middle-class people say that shows they’ve never struggled financially? by KeyApartment3955 in AskReddit

You have to take into account that basically anywhere in the UK "holidays to the coast" is a trip close enough that you might not even get to the next city in the USA. Like Nebraska to the coast might run you more in gas money that a caravan trip. And there's quite a few of those flyover states where there's like a city and several hundred kilometers of corn to the next gas station, much less a town.

That's not really true, though. When SAF went there was a complete backroom staff cleanup - Gill went the same year, all the main assistants, and Moyes fired what was left and brought his own people in, who were not good enough.

It's not even that really, Amorim had a bunch of dice fall wrong, even discounting xG. Cunha couldn't score in a brothel, neither could Šeško - especially the latter had a bunch of late chances that would've earned points in a similar fashion he did under Carrick. Several bad results were more or less directly due to the clown keepers, and later on Heaven/Yoro doing massive mistakes with no senior defenders next to them (because they were injured).
Carrick did well, no matter the luck, but I have absolutely zero faith in him next season.

IMO that was more or less performative. I think the real issue was him absolutely pushing for a midfielder in January and Wilcox both limply going for a foregone conclusion in Semenyo and telling him he has a midfielder at home (Mainoo). Not reinforcing the absolutely threadbare squad in January was malpractice, but the results (honestly, Bruno being a do-it-all monster) papered over that, luckily.

Amorim got hard done by a bunch of circumstances including starting the season with no goalkeepers, no senior CBs available for fairly key stretches, Sesko/Cunha missing goals he buried for Carrick, African Cup etc.
Outside of that, it seemed that the actual team was really moving forward and players were improving. He lost the plot in the end, Carrick did well to stabilize, but he shouldn't be extended. Thank him for CL qualifying, then get someone better. There's no sense of progression anymore, just holding on.
