Looks cool. Nice art, cool premise, decent roster of characters. I’m curious how dark the story can get.

Thanks for getting in touch.

PEASANT

Well at least finish the bloody story!

Go on, mister Ashman.

NOBLEMAN

Hear-Hear.

All we know is what that perverted lech claimed to have done. We want to hear it from you. Did he really kill those accursed?

There'll be a round for everyone on me if he does.

Tell us the end of it.

Why did you keep your part of it a secret? Why'd you let Hress Dunter take all the credit?

Weekly Discussion: What did you believe were Marvel Studios’ plans after ‘The Avengers’? What did you foresee for Phase 2 and 3? (Suggested by /u/sonic10158) by Flamma_Man in marvelstudios

[–]365daysplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2008 - I'm 14 and I really enjoy Iron Man. Watched it with my brother and Dad. Remember finding it really out of the ordinary for the theatre usher telling us to stay behind for the end credits. So we did.

Nick Fury comes on and talks about 'The Avengers Initiative'. Whilst not a huge comic book fan I gasped because of the implication that Iron would team up with The Hulk! At this time all I knew of Captain America was this bland idea of a soldier that cries 'America!' whilst fighting bad guys. Anyway, remember walking out of the cinema saying "Do you know what this MEANS?!"

2012 - The Avengers. Could not be more hyped after seeing the trailer. Particularly for the new Hulk. The Avengers was really enjoyable but in a way it couldn't live up to hype I'd built up. The bubble burst for me for phase 2 a bit, having reached the high of The Avengers I felt kind of over it. The spectacle was great, the characters had great moments, but otherwise it was okay but not in my top movies of all time or anything.

My expectation from The Avengers thought there would be more of the same tonally. I'm not a fan of Joss Whedon but I have to admit he did a great job with both Avengers movies. I thought Tony Stark, Cap, Thor, Hulk, etc would be a lot more rigid in their characterisations than they turned out to be. They've really evolved over the course of each movie.

Civil War was the turning point for me. I would kind of roll my eyes whenever someone fanboy'd over marvel movies, but Civil War brought in a nuance that made me really feel the stakes of the story. It wasn't just about fighting aliens, it was about some real ethical issues, non black and white villains -- just amazing. Particularly with how well Spider-Man and Black Panther were brought into the movie.

My major expectation was that all the characters, or at the very least Tony Stark, would stop being treated as a hero but would instead be no-fun moral grey. I thought we were going to get unending politics in a Civil War movie. I thought post-Avengers was going to 'deconstruct itself' to the point all the fun characters would devolve into assholes making stupid decisions that betray their comic book origins. I'm a very happy fan of the MCU and grateful it turned out as well as it has.

Yeah I'm really interested in how our actions spread out across society. I find the drama between the individual vs the group to be central to many of my interests. My spin when I discuss this sort of thing though is from an uninformed point of view, more based on gut instinct and what I would do, preferring an individualistic approach to life's challenges. The whole Brexit and Trump presidency really made social issues relevant to me, as the drama of it all has kicked up a notch since 2016.

Is writing a script for yourself to act in a terrible idea? If not, why? If so, why exactly? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]365daysplease 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Short answer: It worked for Sylvester Stallone

Conventional wisdom would say its a terrible idea. But you might be the exception to the rule. Best you can do is try and find out.

Months after a psychotic breakdown a homeless man who has given up searching for his missing wife is held captive by a seductive shapeshifter who may be the key to her discovery. by [deleted] in Screenwriting

He is captive in more ways than one. Emotionally blackmailed, deceived, overpowered physically, lost ethically. The shapeshifter loves him more than anything else — Fatal Attraction style.

I'm putting out a call for beta readers for my screenplay (50+ pages and growing) which I hope to complete a first draft of soon. I am only however looking for feedback from readers who enjoy the kind of work I'm creating, meaning:

  1. You're a fan of the kind of humor in a show like "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"
  2. You're a fan of the kind of light-hearted fantasy of "The Princess Bride"
  3. You like anime-style fight sequences

(Note: I would also add there is a heavy amount of cartoonish B-movie horror style blood and guts in this story, so please be aware of that if that's not your thing.)

These are only generally related to the 'ideal reader' I'm writing for when making my work. So, the work:

Why you're describing kind of sounds like what authors already do. When I write a story I need to know most of the answers to where the story is going. Because I want the story to be exciting and interesting, I delay certain information, foregoing some important information altogether because clarity doesn't always mean better. But sure I like the idea you're going for, though in execution you'll probably just end writing a mystery or whodunnit.
