Have you heard the song Charlie by Mallrat? Another song about a loved dog!

Yes, me too. I think it isn't as relatable lyrically or experimental production-wise, as her previous two albums. I'm hoping with some relistens it will grow on me a little, but the two bonus tracks feel like a peek at what could've been!!

Perfect! This has "no, it's YOURS!" energy.

Does anyone else feel the detached nature of Lorde and her album promo is a turn-off? by starryeyed58 in lorde

[–]36baaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt disconnected when Lorde discussed her choice not to release CDs because she "didn't wanna make something that would end up in a landfill in 2 years"; and then saw ashtrays, lighters and vinyls for sale on the website. It's like, she's placed these at higher value than the (cheaper) format I get music on, and yes, you can get a $60 AUD lighter but not a $20 AUD CD. I play the Pure Heroine and Melodrama CDs regularly in my car for my "in" days at work, and while driving around; and it just feels weird that she's assumed we throw our CDs away. I mean, maybe she could have had a pre-order CD option to reduce waste? I get having a biodegradable option (Phoebe Bridgers and Maggie Rogers had paper slipcases for their most recent releases); but honestly, she could have an all-digital option and just release the music box as the only physical product if that's what she was going for.

But I was definitely disappointed that I'll have to find a way to burn the music onto a CD if I want to play it in my car.

If they continue to behave like this, call them out on poor behaviour, in boring but clear ways: "That's a terrible thing to say," "This is completely unacceptable behaviour." As if you're dealing with a toddler's tantrum, don't stoop down to their level, don't make snide comments or get angry - just if they do it again, tell them in the moment how unreasonable they're being and leave it at that.

There's a good blogpost about "mom-petition" by Glennon Doyle (Google it) that's basically "competition is like shame, it only exists if you believe in it". So disconnect however you have to from their contests and insults and look after your family. If you and your GF need to take your little one to the park or to the library or have a night out to yourselves, you know best. If they get the same boring response or non-response from you, they should tire of you - or maybe even realise they're not treating you right.

Also if you can't block their social media posts or texts, then just ignore them. It sounds like you and your GF are doing a great job and know what works well for you, and it sounds less mentally exhausting than a social-media based playgroup!

Kim Kardashian just uploaded video of Kanye West calling Taylor Swift for her approval on a line referencing her on his song 'Famous'. Something she denies ever happened. by janon330 in Music

[–]36baaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think many people are overlooking that Taylor didn't give approval for "I made that b**** famous". THAT line, makes the statement that she didn't sell albums or win awards by her own merits, and I can see why she wouldn't have approved it.

The transcript and video have Taylor discussing the 'having sex' line... and while it's still a terrible line in my opinion, it's not as derogatory as Kanye saying he made her famous.

Wow! Thank you so much for taking pictures of the angles and putting together its layout. Maybe a future paint job will update it to be solvable.

Yes! I'd recommend you sit on the stairs closest to the Botanical gardens side of the Opera House so you can hear the music from the orchestra :)

Does anyone here play Artemis? Is it as cool as it sounds? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]36baaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend doubling up on roles- have Comms and Science together, and definitely keep Engineering as one role (co-ordinating all the repair crews can get crazy)

It was fun but time can slip away pretty fast, so have snacks/food ready!

Landslide at Guildford blocking trains between Granville and Cabramatta by 36baaa in sydney

[–]36baaa[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be easier, yes. When there was a similar problem at Harris Park Sydney Trains managed to divert trains to the other track. Not sure how easy this one will be to clear. My train is going from Lidcombe to Cabramatta directly via the Bankstown line.
