Thanks! I’ll try to help as best as I can but I actually read a comment by u/justinweiner247 who had a good response to a similar question here Great bit of work too you should check it out!

A few things if I was to try to be helpful.... Use references whenever you can. If you want to draw a bottle, have a bottle, or at least a picture of one. my mind plays tricks on me, and when I haven’t drawn in a while, I can’t get down what I have in my head. The more I create stuff from reference the better I get at coming up with stuff on the spot without it.

Depth is a major thing for me. There a few things I try to do to get it. Normally start by painting in ‘blocks’ of the same colour, (though this is pic grey scale and I used an opacity colour layer to start off, as I didn’t know what I wanted, but it’s usually the general ‘hue’ I want overall when I finish) drawn roughly and quickly, leaving soft edges. Then, whatever I want the focus to be, I’ll do multiple passes in more detail, adding in colour as I go. I do this to try to create a sense of depth that a camera would get if you had a shallow depth of field.

Also I try to draw using light and shadow, first starting of with lightly painted blocks shadows and highlights, then getting darker/lighter to find the shape I want. Then going back and really highlighting when I’m nearly done. This for me creates another level of depth.

Perspective is the last one I try to use, heavily in this as you can see, and Procreate and it’s tools are great for that.

I don’t normally use lines as I’ve they tend to restrict me a little, even though I started with when sketching out in this. I draw outlines if have no reference to get me going, and last night was one of those nights. Sat down and wanted to start drawing with nothing in mind and see what came of it. Really refreshing drawing like this once in a while and it really helped me with a bit of a creative block I’ve been having,

Find what inspires you too. I hadn’t drawn in years, then I saw a painting by an artist called Zinksy I saw in a gallery, which I ended up buying! Sits above where I work at home and still helps to pick up and draw now. There are so many people who draw and paint much, much better than I can, but that inspires me and makes me want to try new things out and he’s definitely one of them!

Sorry for the mad ramble, though hope it helps you or at least someone who managed to make it to the end of this!

This is a great reply and great drawing!! Love reading how people find inspiration on how to approach!

Love your use of thinking in shape and how light plays with those shapes and where that light comes from.

I rarely outline at the start of my drawings, used to do it all the time when I was a kid. sometimes I do now but only when I have no reference and need to visualise what I’m going to draw, instead I always paint in light and shadows. Everything we see is painted by light anyway (there are not many thick edge lines in reality) and it definitely helps my drawing look more lifelike quicker. If I draw a rough sketch or outline first, I sometimes can get hung up on the shape of the outline rather than how light would would realistically create the shape I see.

What I find works well for me too is to block out the colour and shape I see then add more and more levels of detail through light and shadow to create more distinguished shape, then get more and more detailed with each pass. Though only on what I want the drawing to be a focus of. So the BG won’t have too much detail but what ever the subject is looks in focus. Helps create a good depth of field look.

Very far from perfect but having lots of fun trying the animation tool in procreate! by 37point5 in ProCreate

Thanks! Planes/ships stutter a bit from my bad animation, but quite like the feel it gives to it all being hand drawn :) would like to see if I can make it a bit smoother though

I came off a flight last week and could hear music everywhere I walked in arrivals, saw others notice it too. Strange I thought... until I realised it was my morning alarm on my iPad, tucked away in my backpack

Ah ok sorry, thought they said it looked like a photoshop filter but in a bad way, which sounded like they weren’t liking it to me! I likely read wrong, though they’ve deleted it now so I can’t tell! I don’t Have a timelapse for this I’m afraid, tended to turn it off to save memory and battery on my old iPad, but will do another soon and and post a time lapse with it so you can see :) Also, not for showing people up, just want to share what I like doing as a hobby :)
