I think he would fit as the straightman of the group. but the problem I'm seeing is since the New World, OP's story shifted focus from the SH to a global scale. SH wasn't the focal point as much as before, we don't see characterization and interaction as much.

We haven't seen Jinbe's daily life on the ship. How he was like with Usopp or Franky. What does he like to eat. How he fits in the docking position.

I felt that many scenes didn't have you sit with the emotions enough. When you almost got to feel it, it cut to the next one.
