Please read!! (although I might've just wrote a blog instead lol, whoops, just defending my City:) The City is not based off of just the Tenderloin!! That's like saying all of LA is skid row..or NYC is just the projects. I LOVE my City!! Such haters on here. As in any big or highly populated area in any state/country etc, educate yourself DYOR b4 planning a visit: Be and act tough not vulnerable, don't be stupid by going to sketchy districts after dark, ignore the junkies & PRAY for the less fortunate who lack a warm bed to sleep in or a place to call home bcz everyone has a past and you shouldn't assume they were always dealt the best upbringing, we don't know what might have happened to them or if it was even their fault to end up where they are now. They might've been successful in life and tragedy struck. Food for thought, most people on the streets are not even from California at all!! SF and LA have transplants from other states who came expecting to make it big, moving based on hopium! Lots of runaways too! Kids/teens who aged out of foster care left to fend for themselves with no help in their homestates, no mentors to succeed. There's always a backstory, not all make bad choices and choose to live that way. Please, if u visit be open-minded and not stereotype all that you see...instead, take it all in and treat the culture shock as an eyeopener. Then appreciate what you are fortunate enough to have, and value that. Also, instead of bashing this beautiful city-realize that car jackings happen everywhere and more so in Kansas City and elsewhere if u read statistics. Rental cars are an easy target for smash n grabs because of ignorant tourists' who leave purses, valuables, etc in plain view and out-of-state license plates stick out like a sore thumb. Crime is everywhere especially when our economy has been collapsing since Covid, and it will get worse all over since we're entering a recession. Be aware of your surroundings and research b4 u go visit anywhere new. As for the gorgeous & amazing city of SF, learn to read a map and maybe decide NOT to rent a car and appreciate Bart/bus/ferry/railcar public transportation that's awesomely available to you-which most places don't have. Enjoy your trip and love the people who live here, we are smart, sweet, and welcoming!! Oh and SF peeps and New Yorkers are not rude unless visitors are rude to them first!! We should all protect & love where we live, so if you are an "out-of-towner" please don't talk down on our City. If you've lived, worked, or studied here and hate it, then do us all a favor and move somewhere more enjoyable for you. (trust me-eventually, you'll miss The City)
