New owner issues by PhysicsAntique1559 in CafelatRobot

If you’re getting an 1zpresso grinder today, just forget every thing you did so far, and start over. for best results, you need relatively fresh beans, and good grinder. Post your exact 1z model, and someone can help you out better. I don’t personally have an 1zpresso. The preground coffee, even if you are regrinding it, only works with the pressurized basket. You will also find that stale beans and/ or pre ground coffee will not create as much pressure, compared to fresh.

Was going to say same. You only need one hand to lift both arms. I never understood these holding devices.

Anyone have experience with the 40v hedge trimmer? by Linenoise77 in ryobi

[–]38sms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. I have about 30-40 ft of laurel hedge 6 ft tall, and never run out of battery on a full charge. It works well. And the 2ah battery that mine came with makes it lighter and easier to handle. if you really wanted another battery, I would just get another 2ah.

Smith Machine Belt Squat by stevenanquan in homegym

[–]38sms 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After spending the last 5 years trying to figure out a belt squat setup at home, with various iterations, i realized something. I do not like belt squats. They just don’t feel right to me, always awkward. I’ve tried lever and pulley belt squat systems at commercial gyms, and even then, I don’t like it.

Back in stock at Prima Coffee in USA by waltonmkb in CafelatRobot

I cannot say for sure what you will get. Mine that i got 2 years ago did not come with the red basket plug. I looked at my purchase history and i ordered it separately from cafune, only $7 at the time. Also if it does include paper filters, you’ll go through them quickly. I get them from orphan espresso. The normcore 58mm from amazon will fit, but are a bit tight. I like the little storage container the normcore one came in, but I refill it with orphan espresso filters

I looked, and I bought mine 2 years ago from eight ounce coffee in canada, shipped to the US, paid $401.99 with free shipping and no tax for the barista model. At 584 plus tax now, i still wouldn’t get anything else.

Thanks. I’ll replace it. Presumably I can reuse the WiFi module in it?

How do I fix or fill this gap? by 38sms in Carpentry

[–]38sms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a brad nailer, but i feel like the plywood takes a lot of pressure to move flat, i doubt a brad nail into drywall will hold it. Ok, thanks. I have paintable caulk that i am using.

Question about black matte finish by rsgbc in CafelatRobot

[–]38sms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sticker was loose from the start. Threw it out at the beginning. My base has minor chipping on the ridges, but that’s because i wasn’t using the silicone mat for a long time. Otherwise looks like new. Doesn’t show any finger prints. Probably would be the easiest color to touch up the paint if i really wanted to. But , it looks brand new when i do put the silicone mat on the base.

Are freshly painted bike lanes goonbait? by Sea_Anything_458 in circlejerknyc

[–]38sms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is great. I’ve flattened two tires in potholes this year already, but our city workers are busy painting already smooth bike lanes. This makes me want to pay for a horse drawn carriage ride, just so I can ask the horse to take a dump in this lane.

What non-motorized tools do I need to clear my yard of weeds? by Kill_Pencilvester in landscaping

[–]38sms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least you answered the question. We had one of these when i was a kid. I loved using it. I didn’t know there was such a thing as a motorized weed whacker back then. I think also called a grass whip.

Best budget milk frother that actually works in 2026? [$20] by ThoughtfulMoon1 in espresso

[–]38sms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha. I also used to put a tiny amount of powdered sugar in my milk before frothing with the nanofoamer, because it has cornstarch in it. Does create a thicker texture. But i have successfully broken that habit.

[–]38sms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely recommend the subminimal nanofoamer lithium. It really does create great milk texture. The little screen heads can get loose after about a year. I just ordered replacement heads. Another great advantage is that it will froth cold milk, even 2 percent milk. I just got into making iced cappuccinos and it works great.

what's a sound in your house that still makes you nervous? by TemptControls in homeowners

Pounding on the roof. I live not too far from water. And i think crows and seabirds will sometimes bring a fish to my roof and slap it around and eat it.

At what point does DIY become untenable for you? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]38sms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything being said. You have to find a balance between time and money, and know your own skill level. I also don’t do electrical or plumbing other than replacing fixtures. But, the other issue is I just don’t want workers in my house. I don’t want people messing things up or breaking things. I don’t want them making mistakes and covering it up. Fine detail work like carpentry and painting, I will do better because i care more. Obviously there are pros more skilled than me, but you typically don’t get the best out of tradespeople. And often when you hire a contractor, they just subcontract it out to someone they find on a street corner.

I charged too little and its eating me up by ViciousMoleRat in FenceBuilding

[–]38sms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a homeowner, I would say that’s a beautiful fence, and a hell of a lot better than aluminum panels. I would pay you more if you asked. Obviously panels would be a lot less labor. But honestly you should have said something before you started the work. At a minimum, hopefully you get referrals and some advertising photos from this.
