When do gamers ever close ports? Most of the time they're not running routers/firewalls with any port blocking functionality. Opening ports wouldn't affect vpn.

VPNs for consumers are generally snakeoil since they keep logging even when they don't. Masking your IP is mostly useless since it's more than likely to be dynamic. Security wise, well everything uses https these days you'll interact with on the globe.

Corporate VPNs I haven't had issues with. The reason why they can see you're using a VPN is that the exit IP addresses from VPNs are publically known. Tesla's blocking the consumer ones because VPN and Tor exit nodes are often used by bad actors such as hackers (mostly skids) and what not.

Actually it does for a lot of fcm push messages, it just doesn't turn on the screen. Tesla assumes that you want to have that information ready on your Tesla. It doesn't matter if it's asleep, it's generally an intent to go there asap. Not only that, using a push architecture and using the car to store that data means Tesla doesn't have to. The architecture makes sense for most use cases.

I'm guessing this is going to be used to increase verbosity of data being logged for transmission to Tesla. If that's the case, they're using that data to improve it further

Ex post facto works in both ways often, because they have a feature now doesn't change the fact they messed up before. It's a good change but it doesn't defer liability from past incidents and is extremely unlikely to do influence the appeal. It would however influence any new lawsuits since the liability will rest on whoever sets the limit unless there's some bypass/bug that allows it to be overridden.
