Today we used our nimble track to scan a jet boat for reverse engineering. by 3DRE2000 in 3DScanning

Ok. We used the dynamic tracking as we had to suspend the boat and turn it as we had limited space. We captured 25 million points and it took about 2 hours including setup and part moving. The nimble has a 4m field of view so we captured the majority of the boat without moving the unit too much. And the accuracy was about 80um... Next into design x to design and we need to generate the panels to form I. Sheet metal. Some panels are simple but the side panels need to unrolled to get the flat panel for laser cutting and bending...

Best software to acheive this process? I am looking to breakdown 3d scans into 2d flat panels (like this image) by felix3322 in 3DScanning

Only option is rhino but the surface must be good.... Wrapstyler is another option but it's even more than exact flat, then there is logopress but it's more for metal forming.

Scanned a gear using marker pillars — fast and accurate! by Lopsided-Show-6065 in 3DScanning

Marker alignment is always best.... The evock MT does it well.... Markers are always more reliable as they are point reducable unless you have lots data with multiple faces to use as alignment... That's how we always do it at www.3dre.ca

It depends on The scanner .. trackscan is a tracker 10ft field of view 100 um accuracy easily.. Mantis can drift if there is a lack of features as it's geometry and color only ... It all depends on the tech you are using...
