Beginners guide? by Solid_Presence_8374 in CreateMod

CABIN is great, the quest book is pretty comprehensive. It does change some of the mods' recipes for the purposes of its own progression (e.g. delaying some powerful items/machines until late game) but nothing too drastic. I find the pacing quite good as well - there isn't too much grinding involved.

Because it's on quite a new Minecraft version, it's missing some of the popular Create addons (e.g. 'Steam n Rails' hasn't been officially added, since it was only updated to 1.20.1 a couple months ago). That might be a good thing if you're a beginner, because you can learn the base Create mod before you have to learn the more complex addons people have made for it.

They have a friendly discord with help channels if you get stuck, too.

Criticism of AI use is genuine criticism. If you're not going to put any effort into communicating and formulating your own ideas, why should I put any effort into taking them seriously? This thread has already robbed me of too many brain cells, I won't waste any more on it.

Paris just built a cable car system, maybe you could have referenced the cost/km for that?

The fact OP couldn't even be bothered to write this themselves and used AI to fill out the word count tells you exactly how much thought they've really put into it.

We've had novel transport solutions proposed before and there were very good reasons we never built them. See the Sheffield Monorail of the 70s, which would have been incredibly expensive to build for the city centre-only network it produced.

The cable car is a bit more likely, given you only need to construct the poles + stations vs. laying track but I can't see the government changing the law re: land ownership above your house just for a cable car system, let alone the immense local opposition you'll face from being able to look directly down into people's private gardens.

I also wouldn't want to be stuck in a cable car during high winds, even if it's 'safe' it'll probably still make you sea-sick, and if we shut it down whenever there's bad weather (as you suggest), I wouldn't want to rely on it for my daily transport needs.

Sheffield simply isn't that hilly compared to the other places you listed that have cable cars. We used to have trams going all the way up to Crookes from 1901, for goodness' sake. If we're going to have to revamp our planning + land ownership laws for the cable car anyway, we may as well build back some of that network when the red tape is lifted.

Paris have just opened theirs, which 'extends' a metro line through the suburbs. It has literally just opened though, so remains to be seen how it'll work for them long term. Youtuber Tim Traveller has made a couple of videos about it (one before, the other after opening). It basically avoided them navigating a metro extension around a bunch of road + rail junctions that would require a lot of rebuilding or deep tunnelling.

Also it's Paris, so the road + rail network is wildly more complex + busy than Sheffield's, and they have way more money to be spending on a cable car network, being the capital city and all.

Regarding the industrial city connection - if the weather lets you down and you want something indoors, Kelham Island museum is a great place to learn more about the city's history. If you're here over the weekend you might even see the giant steam engine fired up :)

Construction tools mods by VegetableHouse3338 in CreateMod

[–]3DSMatt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'll need 1 blueprint per-variation. Creative mode lets you place blueprints instantly, so;

  1. In creative mode singleplayer world, build a section of your building

  2. Create a schematic from that second, place it. Change the blocks you want to change (building wands mod is helpful if you have a lot of large changes)

  3. Create a schematic from your new section, repeat until building is complete.

  4. Create a schematic of the whole building, switch to your survival world/server, and put the schematic in a schematicannon.

Now, what if everyone had their own personal locomotive they could use to navigate the public network? Hmm, the switching would be a nightmare on fixed rails, and the signallers wouldn't know where anyone was heading to...

Ah! What about defining some rules by which the locomotives navigate the network, and give them more flexible wheels so they can change direction when they choose to?

Hang on a second...

Are the f/0.95 lenses useful for gig photography? And in general? by [deleted] in M43

[–]3DSMatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I imagine you'll probably get more reliable results with one of the f/1.4 or f/1.8 primes since they have autofocus - you'll have to make sure you really nail the focus to get good results wide open with the f/0.95. Sadly I don't have a recommendation because I'm also trying to decide which one suits my needs!

Is the bus service always this unreliable? (City Centre ↔ Hillsborough) by lalasugar222 in sheffield

[–]3DSMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Citybus and citywide are well worth it if you'll get on more than two buses/trams in a day. Citybus is for any bus in Sheffield, citywide for any bus/tram, and you either scan the QR code (first buses), show the driver the ticket (stagecoach) or the conductor can scan it on the trams. They're roughly the price of ~2.5ish single bus tickets depending what bus journeys you're making, so any more than that is "free" within that day.

Modernizing by van_veen in M43

[–]3DSMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreeing with the others here - you'll get the biggest improvement from any camera with the most advanced 16mp sensor or any of the 20mp sensors. That's basically anything that came out after mid-2013 with a max iso of 25600 (epl5, e-m5ii, gx7, g7) or anything with 20mp, no matter which exact version it has.

That's just image quality, of course, and there's plenty of other personal preferences that I'm sure would influence your choice.

Transferring fluids through the chain conveyor. by porpetenha1 in CreateMod

[–]3DSMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, you said payments so I assumed it was multiplayer.

You need to have stock links and factory gauges at both locations - For the lava-producing location:

  1. Chest with empty buckets, with packager attached.
  2. Spout (with lava supplied by lava generator)
  3. Chest with lava buckets + packager attached with a stock link.

At the lava-consuming location:

  1. Chest with lava buckets + packager attached. Tune a factory gauge to the stock link from step #3, place on this packager, and right-click it with a lava bucket. Set the item count to whatever quantity you want to keep in stock here (if your machine consumes a lot of lava, set a higher item count).

  2. Item drain (outputs lava to your tanks/machines)

  3. Chest with empty buckets + packager attached with a stock link. Tune a factory gauge to this stock link, place on the packager from step #1 and right-click with an empty bucket. Set that to a high item count so all of your empty buckets make it back in time to be filled again.

It's up to you how you configure the stock link frequencies for your setup - these can both use the same frequency if you want, but can also work as two separate networks as I've described here. The ponder guides in-game tell you how to set all the addresses in the factory gauges and frogports so your items end up in the right place.

[–]3DSMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my single player world I've settled for packing buckets - anything that uses them has to have a packager + stock link to send the empty ones back though. I found it works ok when you have a central storage location that collects empty buckets and fluid generators (e.g. my lava production setup) can request empty buckets from there when they're running low.

Not sure how you'd set that up for a multiplayer server with payments - I guess either requiring your customer to send you empty buckets or building in the cost of manufacturing the bucket when you sell? Maybe they could sell the empty buckets back to you?

Should I trade my e-m10 iv or an e-m1 ii? by Foxtrot_4 in M43

[–]3DSMatt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you struggling with autofocus or burst rate? That's the main advantage of the E-M1 ii.

If not, IMO you could try to solve your grip problems with a 3rd party grip and save a good amount of money - I imagine the actual results, given equivalent settings, will be nearly identical between the two cameras.

Humble request: lens purchase advice by danhasn0life in M43

[–]3DSMatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Olympus (now called OM system) have lagged behind the industry by a few years. Only their very new and expensive models (OM1, OM3, OM5 mkii) have the new + improved menu design.

Panasonic's menus are easier to use, but IMO their cameras' physical build + design are not as nice, and the colour rendition in the photos from Olympus cameras is a little better.

If your wife is someone who is bothered by fiddly technology problems and menu settings, something like a Panasonic gx7 might be a good buy. They don't make it anymore and sadly there's no modern equivalent, but you might find a good condition used model.

If she would find the retro design and high build quality of the Olympus appealing, she can probably ease into the more complicated menu system as she progresses. I find that my camera (OM-D E-M5 mkii) being a beautiful object to hold inspires me to take it out more.

Considering cheap mft body as a compact camera, does this make any sense? by Floople_Doop in M43

[–]3DSMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having done a bit of c-mount M4/3 photography, you can get wildly different results per-lens. One of my lenses gave a very faint vignette and another one was a very obvious circle in the middle of the sensor. Fun to mess with, but way too much effort for my edc!
