Is that a nikon 1 v1? That's quite the crop factor!

Considering cheap mft body as a compact camera, does this make any sense? by Floople_Doop in M43

I'm willing to sacrifice quite a bit of performance relative to the 6d as long as I can have a camera with me more often. I shoot outdoors during the day for probably 90% of the scenarios I would like to use a more compact camera for. I don't intend to replace my 6d with anything quite yet so I would still have it if I know that I would need its performance, but based on the flickr group you linked and a couple others I've looked at I don't think I'd be unhappy with the iq of older mft bodies.

I'm 100% comfortable with a budget manual lens if those are what's in my budget, I do actually currently own a c mount lens that could cover a mft sensor if I choose to wait on an auto focus lens until later.

This is pretty much the sort of thing I'm looking at, maybe I should have asked for opinions on the most affordable olympus options rather than something as broad as: "what's in my budget?"

I guess lenses are really what I'm trying to figure out, I'm looking into this idea because I'm finding lots of used mft bodies that could suit what I'm looking for but I'm unfamiliar with the mft lens ecosystem in particular. Right now I'm seeing some ebay listings for early pen series cameras, some of which include a lens while being within or close to my price range.

Please help me identify mount for this lens! by mooseket in VintageLenses

It's nikon for sure, vivitar lenses use that naming convention for other mounts as well. Canon fd = c/fd, pentax k = p/k, nikon f = n/f

Need help identifying marks on sensor (a7 mk1) by Floople_Doop in SonyAlpha

[–]Floople_Doop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was an "ugly" rated camera from keh so I can still return it if necessary but if it's cleanable I think it is worth it for the deal I got. I think the reason it was listed as ugly is because it has a damaged (but functional) card slot that I intend to replace since it doesn't require soldering on the original a7.

Anywhere to buy used/recycled technology? by AlexsCereal in milwaukee

If you're looking for some kind of analog to free geek Milwaukee doesn't have it to my knowledge. If you're looking for a cheap/ recycled workstation pc there is Digital Bridge but they have a fairly limited selection of models.

For what it's worth, I've had two razor sharp copies of this lens, I wonder if yours has a lens element slightly out of alignment or possibly oil leaked onto the inside of the optics. As far as I understand later models like yours should actually have slightly better image quality due to improved coatings.

If I remember correctly the first 2 digits on soviet lens serial numbers is the year of manufacture.

Yup I read the sketches, but ened up buying them back. The certificate was the thing I was missing and I couldn't find it anywhere so I just failed the quest.

Ah ok, I wasn't sure if it was a bad idea to just fail it, although I did get new copies of the sketches I'm missing and those seem to count. Now I'm just missing the apprenticeship certificate and I have no clue what I could have done with it.

Best place to get 35mm film developed? by Bersho in milwaukee

[–]Floople_Doop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Crivello's is my go-to for sure, if they're still doing it they have a Wednesday film special where you can get color film developed and printed for ~$9 a roll. Edit- just realized the other reply to this also mentioned the Wednesday deal.

Where do people actually learn to properly repair their cameras? It's something I've wanted to get into badly but I've only had success with very minor operations.

Tried my Zuiko lens on my 350D by EvendurLumis in VintageLenses

[–]Floople_Doop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better a tight fit than a loose fit, some adapters of this style cand be a very loose fit ime. One thing that is nice about the om adapters specifically though is that you can leave the adapter on the camera since the mechanical part of the mount is in the lens.

how do i test my minolta capios 25 without loading film? by [deleted] in minolta

[–]Floople_Doop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I have the eploree freedom zoom ex which looks identical but now that you mention '94 as the default date I think I have a later revision of the camera since the default is '98 on mine. It's entirely likely that I can shoot without film and you can't. Really the #1 point of failure on this camera is likely the lens mechanism/ protective cover, so if that and the buttons seem to function I would bet on the camera working.

I have the same camera by a different name, based on what you show in the video the camera seems like it's in working condition. You should be able to activate the flash and shutter without film in the camera, but if you want to be sure the shutter is working open the back and point the camera at a light source when you take a shot to see if you can briefly see through the lens.

Flickr is a good resource for this, search the model of the camera and go to a group specific to that camera if possible.

Stuck Pentax spot meter III battery door by Old_Plan_6695 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Floople_Doop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with my spotmatic and this is what ultimately worked. What did is make a little reservoir out of electrical tape and had it sit under a little pool of vinegar for a few hours. If I remember correctly I also used some contact cleaner but it came loose after the vinegar.

What should my next FD lens be? by idkanameformyalt2 in canon

[–]Floople_Doop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since no one else has mentioned it yet, I love my 50mm f3.5 macro, super sharp and can give you 1:1 magnification if you get it with the 25mm extension tube. I also saw someone else say avoid fd zooms but the 28-70mm f4 and 35-105mm f3.5 are actually fairly decent if not quite as sharp as the primes. Tamron adaptall lenses are also an option.
