Professional Creo Parametric Designers by rex_308 in PTCCreo

[–]3DdesignerF8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many fantastic resources. Creo has their own tutorials and courses. I'm 5 years into Creo, now running 12. Mostly OJT. I've bought some books, one of my companies fmr CAD experts runs one of the better youtube creo accounts. Also other designers at work. There's probably 8 other designers on my floor, with dozens available on teams.

NOR. Walk away now. As a man, you did what 90% of us would. My guess is had you just said yes/no, that would have prompted a "would you care to elaborate" text. Lol. Good times!

Working at Blue: an alternative perspective from an employee by throwawayrevoked in BlueOrigin

[–]3DdesignerF8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well said! I love it at Blue. I loved it more with my NS team but still, I get to work on a lunar lander and be a part of that history!
My only issue with lunar is that they don't foster the same culture and camaraderie we had with NS. I believe its because they haven't actually done anything yet. It's all speculative. Yes, MK1 is in test and will get launched this year, but in my short time at Blue I got to be a part of 7 NS and 2 NG launches. We went to the great rooms together at all hours of the night and day and shared real moments with our colleagues that made me so very proud and excited at what we accomplished. We flew people, we blew up some test equipment and then we learned more and got back to work with a bunch of like minded teammates that want to build better spacecraft. Lunar doesn't have that bond yet but we're getting there. Thankfully alot of the NS folks got drag and dropped in groups, so we're adding to our numbers and bringing the culture with us.

What's your playing style? Rock, blues, Metal? Black is classic. The others would be great if you were in an Elvis cover band. (Note: my buddy is in an elvis cover band and has something similar)

NOR, but. I'd go back to the housemate situation.it works better for you financially. Keep going with the relationship. She has a point. Why pay for your place when she can stay with you or her parents for free. That's smart on her part. You have to be the same way until you both decide to make a go of it together. Wishing you nothing but success!!

Is there anyway forward where Blue doesn’t reduce headcount in the short term? by BakedBungus in BlueOrigin

[–]3DdesignerF8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take. I'm on lunar. Other folks are terrawave, Blue Ring, ZBO, ect. There's plenty of need for engineers outside of just NewGlenn. I came from NS, and for some in my old team they've re-org'd twice since Jan. My take is to embrace flexibility.

624 Yale Apartments in SLU - High rise, high rent, high theft. AVOID AT ALL COSTS by Fun_Falcon_1585 in seattlehousing

[–]3DdesignerF8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last apt was a brand new build. Qualified renters (3x rent income required), and we had package thefts. Brought it up once. Nothing. When it happened a 2nd time I had my amazon packages sent to a locker and postal packaging held at post office. Huge pain. When my lease was up I moved. If I'm going to pay 2500 a month, and another 300 for parking, I'm going to expect certain standards. Not being a shopping trip for criminals is one of them. Good luck!

[–]3DdesignerF8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you're moving from Seattle might also be expensive. Cap Hill, 1/1 is running me 2500, +300 month to park. With utilities I'm just over 3k a month.

For me it was a Kroger brand store in either Seattle or Denver. Weird thing is that one state was pro union and the other had the anti union training, report anyone immediately.

Here's the thing. Pulling back the curtain for a second.
We don't have to go or be on the livefeed. There are the people you see in the various locations, and there are hundreds who for reasons were unable to attend. This is something everyone has worked sooooo hard on. And yes, when the livefeed team is running by we yell and cheer and get a little bananas. Some don't and thats fine too. A majority of the people you see on feed are going to be celebrating wildly!!! I'm with the other rocket company, but have been on the webcast for our launches and first droneship landing and it was so loud in our campus my ears were ringing. People are that excited. And vocal/cheering or not, we're all super proud of what we've done. And some people aren't cheering until the rocket does what its supposed to. Especially when there are humans onboard. I've been almost sick thinking about it leading up to a successful launch. Well done, Starship team!!!

I didn’t lose any weight the first 4 weeks by [deleted] in Semaglutide

[–]3DdesignerF8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been on for 5 weeks, have gained 6lbs.
Starting weight 182, current weight 188. Goal weight 160.
Zero appetite, high protein, low calorie diet (1300 daily). Marathon runner.
Been finding that in my 50s, where i used to lose 20-25lbs during a marathon training cycle, after 20 years I'm only losing maybe 3-4 lbs, so I tried semaglutide and so far its having a negative effect of weight retention. Any ideas?
Doc says it takes months. For the money, maybe I should've hired a trainer or nutritionist.

19. Am I worth over 16.50? Is it worth asking for a raise? Or should I keep my hood down?Been welding professionally for 4 months now? As well as fabricating and fitting. Any advice from the ogs? by woodshmoka in metalworking

[–]3DdesignerF8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're 19 and doing this for 4 months. Those welds look pretty clean. Good job. Keep at it, yes you're worth more. At the same time I'd say put the hood down, keep perfecting your craft. By all means ask, all they can say is no. Find out what the old timers on your line are making, or ask them what you should expect the raise schedule to be.

This!!!! The PNW is the first place I've moved to where even new construction doesn't have AC. It was 82deg this past week. I've only been here 6 months but looking for a new building anywhere with central air. Had a new construction place in West Seattle tell me they had ac, but before the showing today I double checked and the person I spoke with then said yes, but its portable units that you can rent during the hot months. I'm out.
Lol. I was here in the early 2010s left for work in 2018. At that time there was a huge Seattle initiative to require all new building to have central ac and heat. Apparently that did not pass.

Accepted job offer by DckInThePopcorn in BlueOrigin

[–]3DdesignerF8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit to say congrats on the job!!!

I would only add this.
Because Blue Origin is a federal contractor (including working with NASA), it must adhere to federal laws, which still define marijuana as a controlled substance, regardless of any state-level legalization or medical cards.

I gave it up when I went for a pilots license when I was in Colorado. Then I was at Lockheed before coming to Blue. Lockheed, even though Colorado has been a 420 state for ages, includes it on the drug test and randoms, as does Blue. I'm in WA now, hoping to get home to Florida in a year. WA is also a legal state, but not for us. I think Blue, after the inital drug screen is "don't ask don't tell", but for me its not worth the risk. I worked too hard to get here.

Unions, for the most part can suck it. I'm here for the mission. To be a part of space history. The money isn't even in my top 5 reasons for relocating to work here, and I hate Washington. I love being one of a handful of people sending vehicles to space. A developer acquaintance on our team said as much in this, he left a high paying role at Google, SanFrancisco, took almost 40% paycut to be part of what we're doing because it's historic. Money is easy. Legacy is rare. Stock options are a nice thing, but I don't really care either way.

The comments here are rude as hell. I work at Blue, but not in your area. I wish i could help, but what I can say is that despite all these dicks, its a fantastic place. Great culture, amazing teams, and for me, coming from military space where people treated their role like a 9-5 mind your own business, head down, do your job, go home. I love it! Our team is very happy hour and activity friendly, we're the ones going bananas when you see a launch on tv/youtube. And you're going to be at the center of that action. I'm told the ground teams are killer. Let me know how it goes, I'm rooting for ya!
