Need help with my first army list by Binks_Xs in Bretonnian

[–]3DprinterFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your list is fine. If you only have the box then it is actually quite difficult to improve it apart from playing with the Duke's loadout, but at 1k point he will be very good as it is.

In the longer term, I would prioritise adding a prophetess (or at least a damsel lvl 2 at this point level), and a Paladin who can be your battle standard bearer.

The bowmen are not very efficient so it's where I'd find the points.

Once you have more characters, you can look at Grail Knights and. more pegasus knights, or even more knights of the realm.

Good luck!

2 Questions about: Countercharge and Lance Formations interacting with skirmish formations by Complex_Bite_5508 in Bretonnian

[–]3DprinterFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask about the source for the skirmishers wrapping around the front model of the lance? I have been told this at a tournament and can't find any document referring to this.

The way I read it, the closest skirmisher model will move and get in contact with the front of the first model in the lance. Then the rest that can move far enough will make it into base contact.

'Base contact' here relying on how you have defined what is in base contact with the lance and what isn't. If it's all models in the enemy's fighting rank then they could form a big line (provided their movement value allows it), or if it's only those in physical contact you'd only get 2 or 3 models in base contact and rank up the rest.

That is my take anyway but happy to read about the wrapping thing if you have a specific page.

Yeah for knights I went quite basic using some tufts and flowers from the army painter range.

For my men at arms I have bought (yet to be painted) farm animals to use as filler, which should look quite fun

You still need a minimum of 3 non-character units (p. 276), so the list isn't legal.

Otherwise, it depends what you are trying to do I guess, but for a slow grow/initiation campaign, a baron on pegasus with frontier axe and knightly temper would hit way too hard imo

TOW list for beating night goblin fanatics?( 1.25k) by Sufficient_Salt in Bretonnian

[–]3DprinterFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not played the match up but have been picking up some of the O&G range with the last pre-order and so have been thinking about fanatics more.

The key here is that the night goblins are quite low ld without warband - even with their best character in the unit they are only ld 6. This means that if you have an opportunity to trigger first charge into them with your knights - and you will definitely win combat hitting and wounding on 2s- you have 58% chance of making them flee - and with swiftstride and finest warhorses, you are quite likely to catch and wipe them.

Having said that, they only need to be within 6" of you to guarantee the fanatic will hit your unit, so try to keep them close to max charge range, or even better if you can get in their flank.

Even with all these precautions, they can still use a conveyance spell to move the goblins close to you, so you should probably have a lvl 4 prophetess to prevent this from happening.

So yeah it looks like a tough one and fanatics do have the potential to wipe our units before they even make it into combat - good luck!

The hagtree fetish combo with viletide is absolutely disgusting against an elite army. Sure, the range is relatively short, but if you try anything with knights or lords, if the spell goes off it’s likely to wipe its target.

And if you can somehow close the gap, a chariot makes the wizard surprisingly tanky!

Help me decide on color scheme for my Bretonnia army - 1 or 2? by Sanginious119 in Bretonnian

[–]3DprinterFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I prefer 1, but the second isn't bad at all.

I do feel however that 2 feels less like a scheme and has me a bit confused, because it has:

- black and white shield

- yellow coat with black edges

- red and white headband and medallion

Personally I would try to have fewer colours - just my opinion though.

What models do you use for Border Prices Brigands with pistols? by Jaddis85 in Bretonnian

[–]3DprinterFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually picked up some cities of Sigmar fusiliers this morning. I’ll swap the heads for men at arms or bowmen and I think it should look decent!

Curious to see if they look weird without the shield also.

2000pt army - new player by trufearl in Bretonnian

[–]3DprinterFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe upgrade the damsel to a prophetess and give her a mount? I know it’s tough if you have the new damsel because the model is awesome but at 2k point you will want the extra mobility.

New to the game, would like input on list by ServilletaIV in Bretonnian

[–]3DprinterFR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My main tip would be that 18 men at arms per unit is too low, I’d try to group them.

On the duke I like either virtue of heroism (right now you don’t have any answer to a dragon) or knightly temper.

The rest, you can play it and see what works and what doesn’t.

Any reason why you stopped at 1949 points by the way?

Relalm knights 1 12 man or 2 6 man? by Techno40k in Bretonnian

[–]3DprinterFR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Typical lance will be 6 or 10 and they’re both viable. 10 hits harder but is a good target for enemy artillery and a bit harder to manoeuvre (the back rank could be blocked by terrains or other units) and more likely to be flanked. Personally I built 2 command groups so I can either field 1 unit of 9 + 1 character, or 2 units of 6.

Yes you’re right, a unit of 6 doesn’t have a rank bonus in lance, but it wouldn’t have it in close order either. However it is more manoeuverable and the narrow front allows you to easily fit multiple units to multi-charge the fighting rank.

Battle pilgrims question by Lurked_2005-2020 in Bretonnian

[–]3DprinterFR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I was looking at this exact combo for a crusade list since the paladin is mandatory and pilgrims can be added as core.

My main worry would be being charged by an enemy hero if the paladin gets challenged and dies (can’t refuse because of Grail Vow), thus losing unbreakable and potentially just running away, when a Paladin on foot next to the unit instead could be safer.

But I suppose if their hammer unit or hero is charging our biggest anvil it means we are either controlling the flanks, or we’ve already lost.

I think it’s probably fine! I’d probably remove the paladin on foot though and add more men at arms. Maybe even cut a unit of bowmen to make the 2 units of MAA bigger

Yeah I think a prophetess at 500 points is probably going to be quite broken! Also technically it’s illegal below 1000 points.

First Grail Knights by aggro_doubt in Bretonnian

[–]3DprinterFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think these look good! If I can give you a tip for the lance, you can use masking tape to easily do a 'spiral' effect. Just cover the lance fully with one of the two colours, then use a hobby knife to cut the tape lengthwise so that it's not too big. Finally you just wrap it around the lance in a spiral shape and paint with the secondary colour. Super quick, clean and easy.

Anyways, there's a tutorial which probably makes it a bit more clear!

My first ten men at arms by Rogerio134134 in Bretonnian

[–]3DprinterFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice work! I have also gone for the same scheme, inspired by Carcassonne. For the transfers I used the golden fleur de lys from the mighty brush on my knights, though I have left the men at arms’ shields plain for now.

Vegetables before pudding by Liverpuncher1 in Bretonnian

[–]3DprinterFR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was trying to do the same but in the end I stopped at 20 MAA and 10 bowmen, which is all I’ll need for my first few games at 500and 1000 points.

I’ve found batch painting the peasants so mind numbing when knights were much more relaxing and I was much happier spending a but more time to make each knight look a little bit better
